A player spent most of his life in the MMORPG RuneScape. When he was sentenced to 9 years in prison, he had to think about this one game every day. Upon his release, he was excited to return to the MMORPG.
What game is it about? The player Hearsey shares his story in the Reddit forum and explains that he could only think about Old School RuneScape while in prison. He had been playing the game since elementary school and spent 2 months alone on Tutorial Island right at the start.
After the convict spent 9 years in prison, he returned to the game. He bought a new membership and started a new account even before he “bought a steak or had sex.”
Even in prison, he reportedly thought about RuneScape every day. In his Reddit post, he wrote about how he spent his time in custody while thinking of his favorite MMORPG.

Prison inmate thinks about RuneScape every day
How did the RuneScape player pass the time? During his sentence, Hearsey not only had to think about RuneScape but also found other ways to occupy himself with his favorite video game:
- According to his own account, Hearsey participated in a prison program where inmates could write online stories. The MMORPG likely provided enough ideas for the player to write a fantasy story.
- The player reportedly had his stats tattooed on his stomach. Whether this happened in prison is not clear from his comment.
- In 2017, he and other inmates were said to have received a tablet without internet access and with many restrictions. Hearsey apparently downloaded every RPG and hack-and-slash game that the tablet offered. However, he claimed he could not find a game that was similar to RuneScape.
For Hearsey, there is no other game that is like RuneScape. Therefore, he has no interest in new titles. Just before his release, there were a few games that he enjoyed. Among them was the very first “The Legend of Zelda” title.
What did he do? At the age of 19, Hearsey was sentenced to 9 years in prison. The reason: attempted murder of a police officer. According to Games Radar, official reports state that there were no injuries.”
Nevertheless, Hearsey had to answer for his actions and spent a large part of his life in prison. Now, the convict reportedly has a steady job and a nice relationship. He also receives support from family and friends.
Another player in RuneScape also had to go to prison. He was held accountable for writing an offensive comment to another player, which he claimed was just trolling. But this trolling cost him 6 years of his life: 6 years in jail for “online trolling” – Now he is free again
