What are ship modules? In Helldivers 2, you have the option in your Over-Destroyer to purchase new tactical equipment and ship modules in the “Ship Management” section.
While tactical equipment can be actively used in combat, ship modules are more like upgrades. For example, they reduce the cooldowns of your orbital strikes or increase the provided magazines of your equipment.
There are a total of 30 ship modules, but it is not easy to choose the best ones for the start. We will show you which ones you should buy first.

Which modules should I buy first? There are a total of 6 categories with 3 subpoints each, which only reveal their advantages upon purchase. You should buy the following first:
- Patriotic Administrative Center
- License to use donations
- Simplified application process
- Handcart
- Optimized packaging methodology
- Reason: With these upgrades, the cooldowns of all support weapons and backpacks are reduced by 10%. Additionally, you receive more ammunition for your summoned weapons.
- Hangar
- Pit with breathing liquid
- Hazard pay for supply teams
- Expanded weapon storage
- XXL weapon storage
- Reason: The Eagle is a powerful unit in the fight against the Automatons and Terminids. These upgrades reduce cooldowns and the time it takes for the Eagle to recharge. Additionally, your potential missions increase.
- Orbital Cannons
- Explosive shrapnel
- More weapons
- Weightless breechloaders
- Atmospheric monitoring
- Reason: With these upgrades, all your orbital strikes are strengthened and the cooldown is reduced. A handy thing, as orbital strikes can unleash powerful attacks on your enemies.
Note that you cannot freely choose which ones you want to upgrade first. If you acquire a point in one category, you can only buy the next level to reach the final level of the module.
How do I buy ship modules? The modules for your ship can only be purchased with samples, known as Samples. In each mission, you can collect up to three types of samples depending on the difficulty level:
- Common (green)
- Rare (orange)
- Super rare (pink)
Depending on the color, the rarity of the samples and also their frequency in an operation differ. For each level of a module purchased, the price of the next level increases. So it is important to collect as many samples as possible in operations.
It is also important that the difficulty level is crucial for finding the samples. If you want to collect all samples, you need to have at least level 7 “Weary of Life” activated for your operations.

What about the remaining ship modules? The remaining ship modules can be purchased as you wish. Only upgrades for turrets, as well as the ping system and your Hellpod remain open.
