The streamer Maximilian “HandOfBlood” Knabe presented one of his swords in the ZDF show Bares für Rares. The ZDF format streamed live on Twitch and evaluated, among other things, what content creators presented to them as rare finds.
What did HandOfBlood present at Bares für Rares? On Monday, November 24, 2025, Peter von PietSmiet and moderator Horst Lichter hosted a special “Bares für Rares” edition live on Twitch. Previously, Horst Lichter claimed that the Instagram account of the ZDF show had been hacked and that a stream with a famous Twitch streamer was demanded as a condition for releasing the login data.
Within the Twitch show, there was also a segment where various German content creators showcased their rare possessions and had them evaluated by Peter and Horst Lichter. Among them was also the Twitch streamer HandOfBlood, who showed a sword.
HandOfBlood mentioned that he bought the sword from a blacksmith at a medieval festival. However, since the blacksmith only spoke broken German, HandOfBlood wasn’t really sure what kind of sword it was. Thus, the question “Hot or Schrott?!” was posed to moderators Peter and Horst.
HandOfBlood confirmed by history expert
What does Horst Lichter criticize? Peter and Horst quickly agreed that it could not be a truly valuable and historical sword. It seemed too light, for example, said Horst Lichter. Thus, Peter and Horst classified the sword as “Schrott”.
In a reaction (on YouTube) to the clip, HandOfBlood contradicted the assumption made by the ZDF moderator. According to him, it is a misconception that a real sword must be heavy, and he also did not claim that it was a historical sword.
What does the history expert say? The history expert and YouTuber Geschichtsfenster agreed with this statement. He also reacted to the clip from Bares für Rares and confirmed HandOfBlood: “He [Horst Lichter] makes a statement that really bothered me, because he says he recognized it […] that it was so light or too light, and that is just great nonsense.” (Source: YouTube).
Geschichtsfenster explains that HandOfBlood’s sword is heavier than the original. The alleged original sword (or one that it was imitated from) would weigh 1,600 to 1,700 grams. Furthermore, the history YouTuber confirms that HandOfBlood’s sword is a show combat sword and not a historical sword.
Bares für Rares makes the definitive jump to the internet with the first live stream on Twitch and, through the collaboration with Peter von PietSmiet, also reaches a younger target group.
