Guild Wars 2 received in the last update not only the first episode of the living story and a new PvP map, but also new items for the guild hall. Among them are special monuments and memorials through which guilds can honor their deceased members.
Guilds are an integral part of online role-playing games, and some guilds are much more than just a platform to plan the next raid. Friendships develop, fun is had together, and sometimes they even meet in real life. However, while the death of an avatar can be resolved with a respawn, passing away in the real world is final, and there are often deaths that hit everyone in the guild hard. For example, in The Lord of the Rings Online, where the death of a player led to a large memorial celebration.
However, such celebrations are short-lived, and while in real life tombstones and monuments preserve the memory of the deceased, there are usually no permanent memorial stones in online worlds. However, in Guild Wars 2, there is now the option to purchase a monument for the guild hall for 100 gold and to inscribe it with a unique and unchangeable inscription. The memorial statue and the gravestone are particularly suitable for erecting monuments for deceased guild members. This new feature has already been positively commented on by many players on Reddit and seems to be well received.
Mein-MMO says: Good online guilds are for me like clubs and circles of friends in real life, and although such groups are actually formed for leisure fun, there are still deaths and grief. Therefore, I think it is good that ArenaNet thinks of such things and provides a way to commemorate the deceased with the guild hall monuments. But how do you see it?
