GTA 6 is on the starting blocks and there is now initial information about the length of the game. How much time you will need to invest is discussed here.
What is the playtime of GTA 6? According to Rockstar North co-president Rob Nelson, an average playthrough is said to take around 80 hours (see DiscussingFilm). This includes the main story as well as some optional missions.
This means a complete playthrough for all hunters of the 100% mark will go significantly beyond 100 hours.
Especially when considering that the new map will be significantly larger than that of GTA 5, you can already guess how much time you can sink into the latest installment, even though we do not have any concrete details yet.
When you also consider that Rob Nelson’s playthrough mainly revolved around the main story, the upgrade in size can be predicted even better in comparison.
Playtime of GTA 6 in Comparison
When comparing Nelson’s statement with the recorded times on the website of howlongtobeat.com, a significant difference becomes clear:
While in GTA 5 the main story took around 32 hours on average, even if you generously subtract 10–20 hours for the optional side missions, which Nelson also played, there are still around 30 hours more that you might need for the main story in GTA 6.
Of course, the speed of a playthrough always depends on one’s own pace and play style, but this comparison gives a good first impression of what we might be dealing with in terms of playtime in GTA 6.
To further illustrate the significant growth of playtime in GTA 6, here are the average playtimes of the other GTA titles for the main story according to howlongtobeat.com, ordered ascending:
- GTA 2
- 12 hours, 37 minutes
- GTA 1
- 14 hours, 21 minutes
- GTA 3
- 16 hours, 9 minutes
- GTA Vice City
- 19 hours, 21 minutes
- GTA 4
- 28 hours, 4 minutes
- GTA San Andreas
- 32 hours, 2 minutes
- GTA 5
- 32 hours, 4 minutes
Until we know exactly how long one can spend time with GTA 6, it will probably take a while. And another question unfortunately still doesn’t have a clear answer, even if a timeframe can already be roughly estimated: GTA 6: When is the PC version coming?
