The online shooter Marvel Rivals (Steam, PS5) excites fans, even though it hasn’t been released yet. The reason is a new trailer that comes with a hefty dose of anime.
What kind of game is this? Marvel Rivals is a hero shooter like Overwatch or the recently released Strinova. In 6v6 matches, you compete against other players, which you will be beating with one of 33 characters from the Marvel comics at launch.
Marvel Rivals will be released on December 6, 2024, for PC on Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, there is already an official launch trailer for the game:
Fans Love Anime-Style Trailers
What are the reactions to the trailer? In the comments on YouTube, many viewers celebrate the trailer for what it does. The visuals combined with the music remind many of an anime opening intro and are a welcome change.

Heroes that are already recognizable from movies reappear in Marvel Rivals, but with their own look. While Thor does not resemble Chris Hemsworth, he is easily identifiable as the god of thunder from the Marvel universe.
The selection of heroes is also convincing: alongside the well-known ones, many lesser-known characters like Squirrel Girl and Jeff The Land Shark also make an appearance. Villains and anti-heroes are part of the game as well, including Hela and The Punisher.

The PS5 Pro renders Marvel Rivals in 4K resolution at 60 FPS when you want to enhance your visuals with Lumen Reflections. If you’d rather have more frames, the console can support up to 120 FPS. Features of the DualSense controller such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are also utilized.
The release of Overwatch truly opened up the market for hero shooters, but the sequel has struggled since its launch. Recently, the developers even took a step back: Overwatch 2 now brings Overwatch Classic with 6v6 and old abilities – ‘No one could make this up’
