With the upcoming DLC Songs of the Past
CD Projekt Red brings many players back to The Witcher 3. The former director of Witcher 3 has now commented on the new DLC, as for him, it is a completely new opportunity.
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz was the Game Director for The Witcher 3 and the two DLCs (Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine), but he also worked on the predecessors. For part 1, he was the story and gameplay designer and for part 2, he was the lead quest designer.
He is no longer working at CD Projekt Red. Together with other developers from The Witcher 3, he founded the studio Rebel Wolves, which is currently working on the vampire game Blood of Dawnwalker. Tomaszkiewicz serves as the CEO of the company and as the Game Director of the new game.
In light of the new DLC announcement, he again addressed his old employer, as for the first time he can play Witcher 3 like all the fans.
For the first time a normal player
What does Tomaszkiewicz say about the DLC? During the Summer Game Fest, Tomaszkiewicz spoke with GamesRadar. It was also about Songs of the Past. There, the former director explained that he never played Witcher 3 as a normal player. In Witcher 3, he was the developer who played the game all the time.
He cannot start the game normally because he has seen it so often.
The upcoming DLC for Witcher 3 finally gives him the chance to experience Witcher 3 from the perspective of a normal player. After all, it’s the first time he’s not working on an RPG or an expansion of the Witcher universe. Regarding this, he says in the interview:
I hope this expansion will be good. I will play it [for the] first time as a player. And I only have one request… how to say it politely… to do it good.
If you look at the two expansions of Witcher 3, you can definitely hope that Songs of the Past will have a certain quality. For many players, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine even top the main game.
Fans will have to wait a little longer for Tomaszkiewicz, though. The expansion doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but it is expected to be out in 2027. Until then, you can deal with tax collectors in Witcher 3 if you want to: Those who cheated in Witcher 3 will have a tax collector sent after them
