In FIFA 18 Ultimate Team, the shop of the newly released World Cup mode is down. This is EA’s response to players reporting hundreds of free packs.
The World Cup Update for FIFA 18 was released on May 29 at 1 PM, and there were issues on the PS4 during the download.
A new bug has appeared: players are reporting several hundred sets in their club that they did not purchase or trade.
In response, EA Sports disabled the FUT shop of the World Cup mode on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Contrary to some rumors, the pack rate, or the chance of getting good World Cup cards, is not being changed during the troubleshooting.
FIFA players report hundreds of gifted packs
In the FIFA community, several sets were opened today starting at 1 PM, and experiences were shared across various platforms like Facebook or reddit.
Reports piled up where players found countless sets in their FUT World Cup Club that they did not purchase or receive through an SBC.
Posts like this were not an isolated case on reddit, it quickly became clear that this was a massive bug. The sets could be opened normally and also provided the affected users with the pack in the regular Ultimate Team mode.
The consequence is jubilation among the beneficiaries, chaos in the FUT market, and frustration among players who did not find any sets in their shop.
The market has been drastically affected. Due to the flood of sets, the decreased interest in regular FUT, and players selling all their cards to have coins for the World Cup mode, a massive market crash occurred. Nearly every player is available at a bargain price, Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, is going for just over 300k.
PC shop still down, console issues have been resolved
Update, May 29, 8:20 PM: The FUT shop is now live again on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. However, there is still an issue with the PC shop. Therefore, it is temporarily disabled.
Update, May 30, 11:00: The World Cup mode has now been out for almost a day. The shop on PC remains disabled, making the game unplayable for a large part of the Origin community.
The frustration of FIFA fans is growing, many criticize the general handling of PC players, who are often neglected.
Update, May 30, 4:30: PC players have not been able to access the store for nearly a day and therefore cannot open packs in FUT. There is now a statement on the official “EA Sports FIFA” Twitter page.
Nothing is known about a possible compensation that many players are demanding – at least that is how it was stated by the “EA Help” Twitter page.
Update, May 31: The shop on PC is now available again. What remains is an angry PC community and a FUT market with prices that are usually only expected at the release of the next FIFA title.
