In Destiny 2, the end is near, but players are not willing to accept that. They want to convince Sony that the title deserves a future.
What is the situation with Destiny 2? On June 9, Bungie released the final content update for Destiny 2. Active development and regular seasonal content updates have completely ceased, and the focus will primarily be on Marathon in the future.
At the same time, player numbers spiked to the highest level since 2024 after the announcement. More than 160,000 players logged in simultaneously.
The many fans do not want to accept the end of Destiny 2 despite the online servers remaining active and are now calling for an attack.

Assault on the Servers
What are the fans planning? The fans are angry at Sony for being behind the decision to shut down Destiny 2 and focus on Marathon as a new live-service game for Bungie. Now, the fans have called for a major assault on the servers.
Here, they want to show Sony how many fans of Destiny 2 there still are, and at the same time, they want to prove that it is worth keeping the game and brand alive. One goal is also to ensure the development of Destiny 3.
When is this supposed to happen? Various creators and well-known faces from Destiny 2 are calling for the server slam on July 7. On that day, all fans are to flood the game and overload the servers until they crash.
At the same time, Bungie’s future looks grim. Since the acquisition by Sony in 2022, hundreds of employees have already been laid off. Meanwhile, the new game Marathon is not doing well at all. It has only 10% of the peak players of Destiny 2 (Source: SteamDB).
