You can invest a lot of money and time in a hobby like Warhammer 40,000 and actually benefit from it for a long time. Except, a family member “needs space” and suddenly throws everything away…
In June 2026, the 11th edition of Warhammer 40,000 was released and needed new rules, models, and campaigns. For many fans, it is a reason to buy, paint, and play new models.
A student on Reddit wanted to do just that, as he wanted to pull out his sizable army, consisting of models from the Astra Militarum (the Imperial Army) and their traitor counterpart. He had stored his miniatures in small boxes.
However, he had to find out that his mother threw those boxes away to “create space in the house”.
He desperately asks the community how he could return to the hobby after such a setback, especially since hundreds of dollars are just gone – all paid for with pocket money, through deals or trades, as he writes. These are popular ways to save money.
However, users in the comments are not so sure. After the creator lists what he lost, veterans suggest much larger figures.
“That’s easily a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff”
The creator himself says he hasn’t played for several years and can only recall from memory which models he owned. However, there are some such as:
- 13 Leman Russ tanks
- 2 Rogal Dorn tanks
- 4–5 Chimeras
- 5 Basilisks
- one Baneblade (or “Doomblade”)
- numerous other tanks
- about 50 infantry models
- Special units like Ogryns, Commander squads, and various characters
While many of those are 3D prints or otherwise “proxies,” meaning: unofficial models that are not allowed for tournaments, they still hold some value. Additionally, there’s the work time that went into painting the figures.
Users on Reddit calculate: When you take all the models together and use their official prices, you would reach several thousand dollars. Just the tanks, as mentioned in one comment, are worth about 3,000 dollars. Whether it is really that much, we cannot verify, but many of the models are already expensive:

- Rogal Dorn tanks come in at 82.50 euros
- Chimeras are available for 51.25
- one Baneblade alone costs 155 euros
The US prices are even a good deal higher, there the Baneblade costs about 200 US dollars alone. Even if many of the models may have been acquired at a lower price, their official value remains – except for the proxies, of course. We also reach over 2,000 dollars for tanks and vehicles alone.

To his loss, the community can only express condolences and advise: If the creator wants to start again, he should better do that only after he has moved out. It’s very possible that his mother will throw his stuff away again. He might as well save the money for a new collection for the move.
Moreover, he should present her with a bill for the amount of money she has destroyed.
