The lifecycle of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is coming to an end, but a developer holds hope for new content. MeinMMO explains how it will continue after Season 6 and what Warzone and Cold War have to do with it.
CoD MW will not receive a Season 7: Let’s get one thing clear – there are no hints or statements from developers that a seventh season for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is planned.
So what happens next? For players of Warzone and CoD MW, the Battle Pass for Season 6 expired Sunday night (November 22) to Monday and received a new timer that will last until December 8.
This marks the end of the last season of the “CoD MW” era, and the new Black Ops Cold War takes the helm. Here there will be a new Battle Pass and fresh content for the CoD from 2020. But Modern Warfare and especially Warzone will remain relevant for a longer time.

Modern Warfare still has chances for new content
Developer gives info about new content: CoD MW is apparently not quite finished with the end of Season 6. Because on one hand the progression systems of CoD MW, Cold War & Warzone are merging, and on the other hand, a developer recently expressed hope on Twitter that there could be further content for Modern Warfare:
The user “@fx_reed” is Reed Shingledecker, the Lead Multiplayer VFX Artist at “CoD MW” developer Infinity Ward. In response to the question of whether there will be a Season 7 for Modern War, he replied:
- More content is coming. I just don’t know the official name. I hope info will be released soon, so people know what’s happening.
What kind of content might come? The developer remains very vague in his statement. From cosmetics to maps to new weapons, everything could potentially come here. Data miners have already found a new weapon that is not currently available in the game files some time ago.
For concrete information, you will have to wait a bit longer. However, you should not expect major jumps in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer. Although CoD MW remains relevant because you can also earn experience points for the other CoDs here, a content drop like at the start of a new Season currently seems rather unlikely.
A leak from November 2019 showed many maps and modes that have not yet arrived in CoD MW. It’s possible that developer Infinity Ward still has quite a bit up its sleeve.
Warzone continues as before
How does it go on with Warzone? For Warzone players, it looks significantly better. Here you can expect similar, if not even more new content than during the time since the release in March 2020. Warzone is switching from the Season system of CoD MW to the new Cold War. Instead of a Season 7, you will get a Season 1 on December 10.
On this date, Warzone & Cold War will be merged. The final detail of this fusion is still not clarified, but the roadmap of Cold War already hints at a new map for the Battle Royale. The old map will probably not disappear but rather Warzone will be augmented by a smaller map, with its own game mode and ranking. However, not everything is known here yet.
Additionally, the weapon arsenal of Warzone is set to significantly expand. The guns from Cold War are expected to find their way to Verdansk as well. You might soon be able to choose from over 100 firearms. Whether all available weapons from Cold War will come into play in one go on December 10 is still unclear. Also, killstreaks from Cold War have a chance of landing in the Battle Royale and are even already found in the game.
You can expect quite a bit here, as Warzone is expected to play an important role in the CoD universe over the next few years.
What you can generally remember: Cosmetics and weapons from Cold War will also come to Warzone, but not to CoD MW. This applies the other way around as well: If CoD MW brings new weapons and cosmetics, they will also work in Warzone, but not in Cold War. Whether this also applies to the items from the “Cold War” Battle Pass, which you can also unlock in CoD MW, remains to be seen.
Cold War is supposed to be the new CoD MW
How does everything work with Cold War? Simply put, the CoD makers are replacing Modern Warfare with Cold War. Each season there will be a Battle Pass with new weapons, new maps will be added to the game, and Warzone will also receive some updates.
Thus, the subway system started in Warzone with Season 6 of CoD MW and there were always small and large map adjustments or new modes when a new season launched. This is also expected to continue with Cold War.
Moreover, you will be able to increase your progress not only in 2 CoDs but in 3, because CoD MW will continue to be part of the system.
The important date here is December 10. On that day, the first season of Cold War goes online, and the 3 CoDs will share their progress systems, and Warzone players, as well as soldiers from Cold War, will be able to look forward to a wave of new content. Additionally, a new season will start in Modern Warfare – but not Season 7, but Season 1 of Cold War.
