According to reports, Fortnite developer Epic Games is working on an extraction shooter like ARC Raiders. On board is a partner whose characters one wouldn’t expect in this genre: Disney.
What kind of game is this? According to a Bloomberg report referring to statements from anonymous Epic Games employees, an extraction shooter is currently in development, aiming to leverage the success of the popular genre counterpart, ARC Raiders.
They are collaborating with Disney and, according to Liz Markman, Senior Director of Global Communications at Epic, aim to create a “new games and entertainment universe featuring Disney experiences.” According to the anonymous employees, this is said to be a player experience that closely resembles ARC Raiders and would include Disney characters.
A round of gameplay would look like this: you collect loot with a selected character across various maps and deliver it to an extraction point to secure it successfully. At the same time, other players try to achieve the same goal and may get in your way or prove to be allies.
Disney Extraction Shooter – a good combo?
What else is known about the project? The statements from the employees, however, did not reveal much more. According to them, the extraction shooter is supposed to be released in 2026, with a planned release in November. However, whether it will be a standalone game or a new mode within the flagship Fortnite remains uncertain.
Internally, some employees expressed concerns that the gameplay mechanics might seem unoriginal, as they appear to closely mimic successful concepts from other titles. Others, however, remain very optimistic and see considerable potential in the project and the collaboration with Disney.
Whether the collaboration makes the concept original enough to resonate well with players, or if other twists will emerge, remains to be seen.
What does the community think about the project? On Reddit, there are already early voices expressing opinions. So far, players appear to be primarily skeptical:
