Through our table of contents, you can jump directly to the tips you need:
Skip the night when it gets tricky
Especially at the beginning, the night can become your worst enemy. In the dark, there are significantly more and stronger enemies roaming outside of the shroud, often in groups, in the open world, whether it’s bandits or the dangerous brood.
It can therefore be worthwhile – unless you are looking for plants that only grow at night, or want to open a refuge of the night – to find a bed and skip the night.
For this, you can either fast travel back to one of your bases or find a sleeping spot in buildings and caves in the open world.

Build flame altars at critical or high points
Your placeable altars create fast travel points that you can set up almost anywhere. Here, high locations are especially worthwhile, from which you can glide perfectly in different directions. You should also make sure not to place them too close to watchers, as you can glide a long way from them.
Additionally, it makes sense to place altars as security points before critical areas, as you can quickly return here in case of your death to make the next attempt.

Avoid red shroud – it is deadly
Short but effective tip: Don’t go into the red shroud! Never. Just really try not to. You’ll die quite quickly, as all your shroud time will be drained at a furious pace.
Red shroud marks areas where you shouldn’t be traveling with your current status. You need to upgrade your altar and strengthen your flame to make the red shroud accessible. So, you should check back every so often after upgrading your altars to see if you can progress.
