Shadow of the Erdtree is set to provide players with 8 new weapon types at release. Each weapon type is expected to have multiple examples, but what can the new weapon types do? The head of Elden Ring explains it to you.
What are weapon types in Elden Ring? As in every Souls game by FromSoftware, there are different weapon types that define your weapons. Familiar types include greatswords, katanas, or axes. Depending on what type the weapon you wield belongs to, its appearance and the style of combat and slashing differ.
Hammers pound enemies and have a blunt impact that is particularly strong against scales and armors. Katanas, on the other hand, possess slashing and stabbing patterns that behave differently in combat.
According to Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of Elden Ring, up to 8 new weapon types are to be implemented into the Elden Ring DLC. This means new categories with new combat patterns that are intended to provide variety on the battlefield. Hidetaka has introduced 5 of these novelties.
5 weapon types are known: What you need to know
Which weapon types are known? Hidetaka Miyazaki conducted many interviews with various news sites about the upcoming DLC for Elden Ring. One topic was the upcoming weapon types, of which the head disclosed 5 examples. The following are now known:
- Large katanas, including the Tachi
- Swords that are wielded backward
- Close combat weapon that allows you to fight like a monk
- Dueling Shield – A shield/sword combination that allows players to fight and block simultaneously
- Throwing knives that are thrown with every attack
The majority of the new weapon types can also be discovered in the trailer for Elden Ring “Shadow of the Erdtree” if you pause at the right time.
Even in Dark Souls 2 or 3, the developers from FromSoftware created new weapon types for DLCs, but never on such a large scale as is the case with the upcoming Elden Ring DLC.
