In Elden Ring there are over 160 bosses, most of which are entirely optional. To help you keep track and always be well prepared, we have listed an optimal boss order for you here.

We divide our order by level sections and tell you which regions you should visit in these level areas. We will list the most important bosses and reveal to you in which order you should defeat them.

We separate the bosses into mandatory opponents for progress and optional bosses that you should defeat for quest progress, good loot, or achievements.

Elden Ring: Boss order for Level 1 – 20

In the first 20 levels, you should not attack any major bosses yet. Instead, you should try to level up yourself and your weapons before venturing into Stormveil Castle.

Therefore, we do not recommend major bosses here, but the following small intermediate steps for beginners:

• Free exploration of Limgrave
• Recommended dungeon bosses:
  1. Half-human Ruler (Coastal Cave)
  2. Stone Grave Troll (Limgrave Tunnel)
  3. Beastman of Farum Azula (Grove Cave)
  4. Patches (Cave of the Tranquil River)
  5. Grave Sentinel Duelist (Tranquil River Cave)
  6. Guardian Golem (Highroad Cave)
• Recommended open-world boss:
  1. Tibia Mariner

Even if you see the Tree Sentinel right at the beginning – avoid attacking him at all before level 30. The same applies to the dragon Agheel.

Elden Ring: Boss order for Level 20 – 40

Starting at level 20, you can slowly venture into the real bosses. If Margit is still too hard for you, it’s worth a look at the Weeping Peninsula, all the way to the south of the map. A quick detour to Caelid for the powerful Moonveil katana can help.

By now, you should be strong enough and have understood the gameplay well enough to assess the bosses in dungeons and in the open world on your own. Therefore, from this point, we only recommend the most important bosses for story progress and loot.

• Recommended main bosses:
  1. Margit, the Cruel Mal (Stormveil Castle)
  2. Godrick, the Grafted (Stormveil Castle)

• Other important bosses:
  1. Magma Wyrm (Caelid – Gael Tunnel)
  2. Dark Knight (Weeping Peninsula – at night in the open world)
  3. Beast-like Abomination (Weeping Peninsula – Castle Morne)
  4. Bloodhound Knight Darriwil (Limgrave – Bloodhound’s Seal Prison)
  5. Avatar of the Earth Tree (Lower Earth Tree)

Elden Ring: Boss order for Level 40 – 60

The next region is Liurnia, the Lake Land with the subregions Academy of Raya Lucaria and House Caria. We again recommend only the most notable bosses, although you can kill several other bosses in dungeons and the open world at your own discretion.

• Recommended main bosses:
  1. Red Wolf Radagon (Academy of Raya Lucaria)
  2. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon (Academy of Raya Lucaria)

• Other important bosses:
  1. Royal Knight Loretta (House Caria)

  3. Avatar of the Earth Tree (Lower Earth Tree)

Elden Ring: Boss order for Level 60 – 70

Now it goes to Caelid and the underground of the Between Lands with Ainsel and Siofra.

• Recommended main bosses:
  • Starcaller Radahn (Caelid – Castle Redmane)

• Other important bosses:
  1. Ancestral Spirit (Siofra)
  2. Commander O’Neil (Open World of Caelid)
  3. Nox Swordstress and Nox Monk (Caelid – Sellia, City of Sorcerers)
  4. Stinking Tree Spirit (Caelid – Catacombs of War Victims)

Elden Ring: Boss order for Level 70 – 100

Between levels 70 and 100, the game is the most open. Here, the Altus Plateau, the Eternal Cities of Nokron and Nokestella, the Rotting Sea, the Depths of Deeproot, Gelmir, and House Vulkan are recommended.

• Recommended main bosses:
  1. Magma Wyrm Makar (Liurnia – Cliff Ruins)
  2. Noble of the Gods’ Crotch (Gelmir – House Vulkan)
  3. Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy (Gelmir – House Vulkan)

• Other important bosses:
  1. Imitator’s Tear (Nokron, the Eternal City)
  2. Royal Ancestral Spirit (Nokron, the Eternal City)
  3. Astel, Spawn of the Abyss (Great Crossroad, after the Rotting Sea)
  4. Elder Dragon Lansseax (Open World in Altus Plateau)
  5. Godefroy, the Grafted (Altus Plateau – Seal Dungeon of the Golden Lineage)
  6. Elemer of the Thorn (Altus Plateau – Shadow Fortress)
  7. Fia’s Champions (Depths of Deeproot)
  8. Lich Dragon Fortissax (Depths of Deeproot)

Elden Ring: Boss order for Level 100 – 120

From level 100, the transition to the endgame slowly begins. It goes to the capital Leyndell and its Underground Reserve of Shame. Then to the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Sacred Snowfield.

• Recommended main bosses:
  1. Dragon Tree Sentinel (Altus Plateau, in front of the side entrance to the capital)
  2. Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Leyndell, Royal Capital)
  3. Morgott, King of the Mal (Leyndell, Royal Capital)
  4. Fire Giant (Mountaintops of the Giants)

• Other important bosses:
  1. Mohg, the Mal (Underground Reserve of Shame)

Elden Ring: Boss order from Level 120

From level 120, you are fully in the endgame. Now you will fight the last bosses in the game as well as other optional main bosses in the locations Mohgwyn Palace, Miquella’s Haligtree, Elphael, Crumbling Farum Azula, and the Ashen Capital.

• Recommended main bosses:
  1. God of Blood’s Duo (Crumbling Farum Azula)
  2. Beast Cleric / Maliketh, the Black Blade (Crumbling Farum Azula)
  3. Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing (Leyndell, Ashen Capital)
  4. Godfrey, First Elden Lord / Hoarah Loux, the Warrior (Leyndell, Ashen Capital)
