What kind of formation is this? The tactic code leads you to one of the most played formations in EA FC 25, the 4-2-1-3. To implement the formation perfectly, you need:
- 1 goalkeeper (GK) with the player role GK-Pro
- 2 full-backs (LB/RB) with the player roles full-back
- 2 center-backs (CB) with the player roles defensive pro
- 2 central defensive midfielders (CDM) with the player roles shielding
- 1 central attacking midfielder with the player role motor
- 2 wingers (LW/RW) with the player roles inside forward pro
- 1 striker (ST) with the player role target man pro
What characterizes this formation? The 4-2-1-3 offers the perfect balance between strong offensive play and compact defense.
In attack, your 3 strikers in the front line and the CAM behind create danger. The wingers like to cut in from the sides through their player roles, allowing your CAM to provide passes to the goal. Your striker stays central and serves as a target for passes but also tries to exploit any gaps that open up.
The defensive compactness is ensured by the 2 CDMs in front of the back line, keeping the center tight. The 4-man line remains closely positioned at the same height. For a bit more offensive power, you can involve one of your full-backs or one of the defensive midfielders in the attack when in possession of the ball, either by manually sending them with L1/LB or executing a one-two pass (L1+X/LB+A).
These play styles are useful for the positions:
- LW/RW: Acceleration, Sprint Speed, Finesse Shot, First Touch, 1 or 2 passing play styles
- ST: Finesse Shot, Power Shot, Anchored, Acceleration, Sprint Speed, First Touch

4-4-2 Tactic (balanced)

When should you play this tactic? As a starting formation when you begin a new game and as long as the score is tied.
What characterizes the 4-4-2 tactic? The 4-4-2 is one of the most balanced formations. Defensively, you play with 2 four-man lines. Offensively, you are very variable with individual instructions, and you can create danger with 2 strikers and 2 wingers.

On the left side, you try to combine through the wing. Your left ST and left CM provide you with additional passing options. The left attack side is designed to keep the pitch as wide as possible, with the offensive wide player taking the role of “winger.”
On the right, your RM acts as a third striker and moves inward during attacks towards your right ST. This way, at least 3 players are in the opponent’s penalty area during your attacks, creating danger.
4-5-1 Tactic (defensive)

When should you play this tactic? When you are leading and want to manage the score, your opponent is applying pressure, and you need to clear a lot of long balls from the danger zone.
What characterizes the 4-5-1 tactic? The 4-5-1 is a bit more defensive than the 4-4-2. The withdrawn striker, who acts here as an attacking midfielder, should provide you with one more passing option.

Don’t let the image confuse you. Since the CAM is given the role of “wide playmaker,” he supports the side where the ball is located. He moves all over the pitch to create passing options and also helps defensively.
Defensively, you are set up with a tight back four that focuses solely on defending. Your midfield also helps you defend your goal.
Small tip: Since you are forced to make many long balls, you should rely on tall players with good heading ability for the ST and RM/LM.
4-2-4 Tactic (very offensive)

When should you play this tactic? When you are behind and need to score a goal.
What characterizes the 4-2-4 tactic? The tactic impresses with concentrated offensive power. With 4 players in the front line, you are very present in attack due to their sheer numbers. At the back, however, you are usually quite open.

Your 4-man attacking line is supported by the additional CM and his role as “motor” and focus “attack.” The opponent’s penalty area will be besieged by numerous players. This is meant to create chaos in the opponent’s defense.
What else should you pay attention to? When selecting your players, make sure they can at least perform the roles. BeneCR7x states that you don’t necessarily have to ensure that players have a “+” or “++” next to their player role.
