On March 26, 2026, developer Techland released a new update for Dying Light: The Beast, which adds the subtitle Restored Land to the game. The update introduces a new survival mode designed to put the best players to a tough test.
Zombies stay dead, no farming exists
What does the new mode offer? In the new mode, which you can activate under the difficulty levels Survivor
or Brutal
, you can reclaim the land as the name suggests. When you kill zombies, they actually stay dead. This allows areas to be completely secured. Also, the progression of the world is permanent in this mode. So if you’ve completed darkzones, they remain completed.
At the same time, new survival challenges are added. You need to manage resources better to optimize your hunger and arsenal. In addition to the zombies that no longer return, the loot will also not respawn. So you have to make do with what you’ve looted, making each fight and journey better planned.
As explained in the announcement on Steam, you can make the whole experience even harder. Optionally, you can activate a mode that gives you only one life, meaning permanent death.
If you manage to complete the game in the new mode, you’ll receive a special outfit, and in the permadeath mode, you’ll get another one.
What else comes with the update? As part of the big update, new racing challenges, a leaderboard for friends, new enemies, and achievements will also be added to the game. Additionally, the HUD is said to have been improved, and there is now a ping system for the co-op mode.
