Blizzard has spoken a bit about the upcoming mobile action RPG Diablo Immortal. Among other things, about how it will be financed. Content updates will always be free, for example.
How is Diablo Immortal financed? The Hack and Slash that was heavily criticized during its presentation at BlizzCon 2018 will be available to you as a free-to-play game at release. You can play through the main story without having to pay a cent.
And this also applies to upcoming content updates. If the story is expanded and new quests are added, you will receive these at no additional cost. This is promised by Lead Designer Wyatt Cheng.

However, there is a battle pass that you can purchase. And items, called crests, with which you can modify the Elder Rifts – endlessly repeatable, randomly generated instances – for better loot with random effects. You will also need to purchase these crests.

Why will the content be free? Wyatt Cheng explained that they do not want to artificially constrain players through limitations.
We will not restrict your playtime through an energy system, and new classes will be accessible to everyone without requiring an in-game purchase. Diablo Immortal will be free-to-play, with optional in-game purchases.

This means that new classes will also be added to the game for free.
What is Diablo Immortal anyway? The action RPG represents a mix of hack and slash and MMO. It will be released for mobile devices. As with the other parts of the series, you fight against legions of enemies while playing on servers like in an MMO. There are also content elements that resemble an MMORPG, such as group dungeons or weekly rewards.
What status is Diablo Immortal currently in? A technical alpha has begun in Australia. This is supposed to provide a lot of feedback, which the developers want to analyze and possibly implement before the hack and slash launches in other countries.
