Blizzard has introduced the Druid as a new class for Diablo Immortal. It is one of the most popular classes in the series, dating back to the second installment. However, in the latest iteration, Diablo 4, there was trouble with the Druid. Now fans are complaining: even the mobile game is getting a better version of the class.
What kind of class is this?
- Druids are shapeshifters and nature mages who can transform into wolves and bears or rip apart enemies with the power of earth and storm. In Diablo 4, they are also characterized by pets like wolves and ravens.
- Currently, Druids are one of the strongest classes in Diablo 4 Season 8, which is unusual: the class has been one of the weaker ones, especially at the game’s release.
- On July 3, the Druid will be introduced as a new class in Diablo Immortal.
Here was the trouble with the Druid in Diablo 4: When the Druid was announced as a class for Diablo 4, the community was excited. Blizzard wanted to return to the roots with the game, making it darker and grittier.
A class from Diablo 2 gave hope. After all, players had to wait over 9 years for a new Diablo – ignoring Immortal. However, joy quickly turned to disillusionment: the Druid was considered too fat and too weak by many.
Blizzard opted for an unconventional look with a compact body shape that deviated significantly from “classically attractive” models. Additionally, the Druid did not impress with its performance; nearly every other class was significantly stronger for months.
Now Blizzard has introduced the Druid as a new class for Diablo Immortal, and fans of Diablo 4 are looking enviously at the mobile offshoot.
“One would think the games would have consistent characters”
On Reddit, a user complains about the appearance of the Druids in Diablo Immortal – or more precisely: that they look so different from those in Diablo 4. While the latest title has the bulky models, the mobile Druids have “the more attractive models, designs, and cooler skill and ability animations.”
It feels like a lot of effort went into the development of Diablo Immortal, making Diablo 4 feel even older, despite being newer. Blizzard is missing out on potential here, says the user: Diablo 4 could easily catch “whales” if it leaned into the old values.
In the comments, there is agreement: people would play Druids if they looked better. Being ugly in real life is enough. Others counter that Druids in Diablo 4 are at least unique and not “generic Chinese characters.”
Some users point out that Diablo 4 is developed by Blizzard while Diablo Immortal comes from NetEase, which follows a very different development philosophy. Immortal is also significantly “more ruthless” in monetization; a traditionally prettier model fits better. Nevertheless, more customization options for Diablo 4 would be quite desirable.
Story-wise, the Druid in Diablo Immortal is quite fitting: Immortal takes place chronologically between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. However, there are several years between the games until Diablo 4.
Diablo 4, on the other hand, takes place 50 years after Diablo 3, so more than half a human lifetime. It’s clear that things will change there – even if the community is still upset about the Druid. The fact that there are still Druids is almost a miracle, as many people no longer exist in Diablo 4: An angel killed 90% of the people in Diablo 3, generating excitement among fans for Diablo 4
