Diablo 5 is in the midst of the apocalypse
What is Diablo 5 about? The development team has stated that they are ready to look beyond the “Age of Hatred” and usher in the next era. Sanctuary is in the midst of the apocalypse—a desolate world without any stability.
For 30 years, Sanctuary has stood on the brink of the abyss, and every time heroes have appeared to repel the darkness. Until now.
In Diablo 5, Diablo has triumphed and seized the world. There are no safe cities left and only a few survivors. You, as a player, and your growing caravan represent the only safe refuge. The road is your home as you traverse the wasteland with your allies.

What does the world look like? You traverse a reshaped, devastated Sanctuary where only a few have managed to escape Diablo’s rule. Humanity has fallen; the land is eerie and unstable. Diablo actively reshapes the world with his horrors: terrain, points of interest, monsters, and rewards can change with every return.
Since there are no cities or captured strongholds left, your survival depends on your caravan. You must build this caravan with various allies who travel with you. These include, among others, a stranded treasure goblin and a former sister of the Hidden Eye.

Is Diablo featured in Diablo 5? How exactly this encounter will look remains to be seen. According to Blizzard, however, Diablo is now a “fully fleshed-out character” and has significantly more to say. He is present from the first moment and shapes the story, the world, and your path. Since this installment takes place in a world dominated by the demon lord, everything revolves around the question: What happens now—and what will one become when the world has already fallen?
In Diablo 4, the big boss is known not to be present. Why does the game still bear its name?
