In Diablo 4, the screen quickly fills with countless effects. Blizzard had already addressed this, but with the Warlock, the problem has returned. And that costs many player characters their lives.
What does Diablo 4 use to eliminate players? Visual effects from other players cause enemy AoE attacks to become invisible, resulting in the player’s character facing demise:
- After the release in June 2023, it was mainly Necromancers who unintentionally led their teammates to their death with “Corpse Farts”.
- Blizzard made improvements, yet the game continued to transform into an overwhelming “Where’s Waldo?” through various effects and features.
- Recently, the Killstreak feature caused frustration because it popped up loudly and right in the middle of the monitor.
With the Warlock from Lord of Hatred, the visual chaos makes a comeback.
Warlocks are forced to “grief” other players
This is the problem with the Warlock: Regularly on Reddit, threads arise where players complain about their Warlock colleagues. One meme suggests that group members die as soon as a Warlock joins (Source: Reddit). The cause is the visual effects of the skills.
A user reinforces the issue with a screenshot and explains that characters are dying in droves because absolutely nothing can be seen. It was to be expected that many would try out the new class at the season start. The community is calling for Blizzard to make the graphic chaos visible only to the Warlock player.
This is what the players say: Some take the issue with humor, while others express frustration in the comments. pbmm1 jokes that Warlocks must have allied with demons to eliminate players. And sharkcohen reports that he often only notices the danger when his health points are already plummeting. Others wonder how hardcore players don’t completely lose their composure.
Whether Blizzard will address this remains unclear. However, since the effect flood from the Warlock even surpasses that of the Necro’s “Corpse Farts,” a patch from Blizzard seems quite possible.

Before the release of Lord of Hatred, many suspected that the Warlock would become extremely powerful, as new classes in Diablo 4 often start out completely overpowered. However, the opposite is the case: many players find that the Warlock is underwhelming compared to the tried-and-true classes and are already returning to them.
