What is Kanai’s Cube? Kanai’s Cube is a mechanic in Diablo 3 that allows you to use affixes from weapons, equipment, or jewelry without having to wear the respective weapon, equipment, or jewelry. To do this, you place the desired item into the cube, extract its magic, and can then activate it at the press of a button.
The cube was introduced in Patch 2.3.0 and is dedicated to a deceased employee.
Kanai’s Cube is an important component for all builds to make your characters much stronger. Forgoing it is not an option. Therefore, you should first find the cube and then use it. We will show you how to do that. There are also 9 other recipes that make the cube interesting for various situations.
Why is the cube interesting now? Seasons in Diablo 3 repeatedly rely on Kanai’s Cube. The developers regularly unlock bonuses that make the cube even stronger.
Finding Kanai’s Cube – Location in Act 3
Here you should search: Start a game in adventure mode and teleport to Act III to the ruins of Sescheron. You will find the location in the northeast on the map.
Once there, walk through the randomly generated map to find the glowing blue entrance to the “Sanctum of the Elders”.
In the Sanctum of the Elders, look for a small room at the edge of the level. It is square-shaped and has a small pedestal in the middle, with a few steps leading up to it. On the pedestal, you will find Kanai’s Cube.
If you are there for the first time, Zoltun Kull will speak to you and share a few words about the cube. After that, the cube will be made available and “clickable” for you. Now collect it.

Where is Kanai’s Cube after collecting it? You can always find it in the city. In the various camps, you will find the cube just like Kadala, the blacksmith, or the mystic.

What can the cube do? Here we present all the recipes of the cube.
- Tal Rasha’s Archive: Extracts a special property from a legendary item
- The legendary item is destroyed in the process
- Kull’s Law: Reforges a legendary item
- After reforging, you receive the same item again with randomly rerolled stats – The item can even become ancient
- Cain’s Hope: Upgrades a rare (yellow) item
- Your chance to create strong, legendary items from yellow items
- Nilfur’s Skill: Transforms a set item into another set item
- These items cannot become ancient or archaic
- Cathan’s Work: Removes the level requirement of an item
- Radament’s Darkness: Transforms gems into gems of a different color
- Joy of Iben Fahd: Transforms salvageable parts
- Sorrow of Iben Fahd: Transforms arcane dust

What should you use? One of the most important functions is extracting legendary properties. After you have extracted them, click on the corresponding slot in the cube (weapon, armor, jewelry) and select the extracted bonus there. This way, you have it active without having to equip the item.

Kanai’s Cube opens portals with the Puzzle Ring and Bovine Bardiche
What is special? You have the opportunity to open special portals in the cube with a Puzzle Ring or the Bovine Bardiche.
- Puzzle Ring: Place this ring in the ingredient window of Kanai’s Cube and click “Transmute” to open a portal to the “Realm of Treasures”
- This is worth it if you are looking for loot from goblins (gems, blood shards, etc.) and want to take advantage of the chance for rare items
- Bovine Bardiche: Place this weapon in the ingredient window of Kanai’s Cube and click “Transmute” to start the cow level
- This is especially worthwhile for materials, gold, massacre bonuses, and experience points
Note: If you use these items to open portals, they will be destroyed during the transmutation. However, this is especially worthwhile if you are traveling as a group and completing the portals at high torment levels.
Do not throw away either the Puzzle Ring or Bovine Bardiche. If you use them to open portals, they are much more valuable. In both portals, you will find several legendary items, from which you can ultimately gain more crafting materials than if you disassembled the items directly.
