Fifth Encounter: Witness
Division: Two teams of three Guardians each – Team “Glyphs” and Team “Add-Clear”.
How does the encounter work? Team “Add-Clear” takes care of the enemies on the battlefield and tries to survive. The main task comes from Team “Glyphs.” They must deal with the three different hands belonging to the Witness:
- Hand from the ceiling is Triangle (green)
- Hand from the ground is Circle (yellow)
- Hand from the wall is Square (red)
All hands generate fields in the boss arena. You must stand in these fields to destroy the rings of the hands. Once they are broken, you will briefly see which resonance you need to destroy these hands.
If the ceiling hand needs the buff of Square (red) because of the red ring, you need to find the wall hand and stand in its attack long enough to get its resonance. Once you’ve done that, you need to return to the ceiling hand’s field and shoot the arm to receive a Glyph Breaker buff.
This buff allows you to shoot the glyphs on the Witness’s chest to transition him into the damage phase.
After destroying all glyphs, you can enter the middle plate of light to deal damage to the Witness’s critical point. Be aware that the Witness will bombard you with many attacks during the damage phase, so it is important to pay attention to your surroundings. Once the damage phase is over, you repeat the process until the Final Stand.
In the middle of your preparation for the damage phase, it is possible for a hand to start screeching. This will then glow yellow and convulse. Now, black patterns will appear before the Witness that you must shoot in such a way that they show the symbol that the screeching hand represented.

If you do that correctly, the Witness will unleash a wave at you that you can now dodge. If you fail, you will not be able to jump and will die.
Tips for the Encounter:
- Make sure that only one or two players take care of the screeching hand and the patterns, otherwise, there will be chaos.
- Also, if you have collected too many resonances, you will die.
- Worthwhile weapons here are “The Endless Hunt,” “Microcosm,” or “Whispers of the Wyrm.”
- The best ultimate for the boss fight is usually the Hunter’s Golden Gun or the Titan’s Axes. A Well of Light would be good to quickly recover from damage taken.
- If you received a resonance while clearing adds, you should jump into the center with a Glyph Breaker and wait for it to destroy a glyph. This way, the buff disappears.
- After each destroyed glyph, Harbingers will appear on the map. Don’t forget these and communicate when you destroy a glyph. This way, you do not overwhelm the Add-Clear.
This was the entire raid and how you can tackle it. The raid isn’t hard and can be completed by any Guardian with a bit of practice. The important thing here is communication between the players. If that is not present, you will most likely not be able to complete the raid.
