With Crimson Desert, the developers of Black Desert Online have achieved an even greater success after their MMORPG. However, their MMORPG is now supposed to help shape the future of single-player RPGs.
What is the status of Crimson Desert? The hype around Crimson Desert has noticeably faded three months after release. On Steam, around 40,000 players still play the title simultaneously during peak hours on weekends (Source: SteamDB).
Looking at the achievements, only 8.4% of players have even completed the story of the title. Only a few of them likely took the next step and tried to play the title to 100% completion.
For the developers, however, this is not a problem. They are currently known to be working on the DLC for Crimson Desert and explain in a new interview why their experiences with Black Desert Online are supposed to help.

What do the developers explain in the interview? In an interview with IGN, the developers of Crimson Desert talked about their plans for the new DLC. The team wants to make it clear that, while there have been updates as with a live-service game, the new DLC will be much larger than previous patches.
The goal is always the same: “We can and want to provide long-term value to the game. We want to continue to improve the player experience for those who have been with us from the beginning and ensure that the game gets better and better.”
The Director of Marketing and PR, Will Powers, further explained that the developers at Pearl Abyss learned from Black Desert Online that the community should help determine what changes and how. They want to implement this in Crimson Desert as well: “It’s in Pearl Abyss’s DNA to listen to and engage with the community; this has been incredibly important for the developers.”
What can be expected from the DLC? While the developers are still holding back on major announcements, they make it clear in the interview that they want to give the players exactly what they appreciate about the game with the upcoming major changes.
They want to ensure that the upcoming updates do not ruin the game for those who have followed the title since day one. The DLC is supposed to expand the story of Cliff and his companions rather than change it. While Cliff’s motives are supposed to become clearer, the existing story will remain intact.
Crimson Desert has thrilled many players and has become a mega-hit for the developers at Pearl Abyss. The upcoming DLC could top that and refine the areas where the title has so far struggled. Perhaps the developers will also manage to redeem an unpopular character: Players want to erase a character in Crimson Desert, although he plays an important role
