The hunt for Pokémon cards knows hardly any bounds these days. Even criminals have become aware of the cards as loot, sometimes using grotesque methods.
For collectors of Pokémon cards, it has become quite difficult to obtain the coveted cards nowadays. Limited print runs and scalpers ensure that actual collectors often end up empty-handed or have to pay absurd prices for the products.
Criminals have also noticed the hype and high values of individual cards. This is evidenced by a criminal from Florida who resorted to an unusual tool for his theft.
One store, one tool, one arrest
How did the thief proceed? The 33-year-old criminal went to Collection Realm, a card store in Florida, during the night. Initially, he tried to smash the store’s windows. Since this attempt was unsuccessful, he chose another method: a chainsaw.
With it, he destroyed the window panes and gained entry into the store. Here, he helped himself generously to various cards and filled his pockets with them. The value of the stolen cards was around 12,000 US dollars, which corresponds to about 10,322 euros.
However, the theft was not successful. With the license plate of the getaway vehicle, the police were able to identify the perpetrator and apprehend him at his home. The perpetrator now faces charges of burglary and theft of goods worth 10,000 – 20,000 US dollars.
The shop owner thanked on Instagram for the support and kind words he received online. At the same time, he writes that fortunately, no one was present in the shop at the time, so there were no injuries.
