Kathrin “coldmirror“ Fricke is an absolute legend in German YouTube and shaped countless childhoods. In an AMA, she answers fans’ questions on Reddit.
What is it about? On June 23, 2026, coldmirror held an AMA on Reddit, a virtual question round. Fans could submit questions in advance, which the YouTuber then answered to the best of her knowledge. One fan asked whether coldmirror had a special status at funk. The YouTuber has been part of the ARD and ZDF content network since 2016.
coldmirror explains in her response on Reddit that she does not know for sure. However, the collaboration is quite relaxed. She simply states a number of videos she wants to publish within a certain period; the finished videos are then technically and content-wise checked and published.
Even more exciting, however, is another part of the answer, as the YouTuber states: For some reason, everything works on her channel, even though she does not follow the usual rules for many views. In fact, most of her recent videos reach over 400,000 views. The episodes of the “5 Minutes Harry Podcasts” from 2 to 3 years ago even exceed a million.
coldmirror has even been active on YouTube before Gronkh.
Authentic content instead of chasing algorithms
What rules does coldmirror break? While there is no guarantee of success on a platform like YouTube, some “best practices” have emerged that can help a bit. These include:
- Upload regularly and a lot: On coldmirror’s main channel, a new video appears approximately once a month, so no constant uploads or fixed times.
- Pick up current trends and optimize for search engines: In her podcast Telekaddi, Coldmirror deals with children’s series from back in the day; other videos have titles like “Kack product descriptions – stay normal” – not exactly the material that would make Google dreams.
- Feed the algorithm: To be successful on YouTube, it is no longer enough to simply publish videos; they should also be promoted with short videos and a constant social media presence. Shorts are missing from coldmirror’s channel, and the YouTuber has only recently learned about her own subreddit – which has existed since 2014.
The absolute biggest mistake to really cash in on YouTube, coldmirror has indeed made much earlier, because she did not monetize her videos.
So why does it work anyway? The true answer to this question is probably: because it is coldmirror. The YouTuber herself says she has a hard core of viewers; she does not need to trick algorithms. So she is in the lucky position to be able to do more or less what she wants because her fans react to exactly this authentic style. Or, as another fan puts it: “Yes, I think she has a special status – a legendary status.” (Source: Reddit)
How true this statement is became evident in the AMA itself, as there were over 1,000 comments with numerous questions. Many fans also simply wanted to thank for the countless wonderful hours they have spent over the years with the YouTuber’s content.

For many fans, coldmirror has significantly shaped their humor – a fact that, according to the AMA, she still does not quite know whether to be happy or apologetic about.
