Wedding Rings Inspired by Final Fantasy XIV
Players Adam and Chris approached Takayas Custom Jewelry because they liked the attention to detail and the creative approach of the master jeweler.
With over 20 years of experience, Takayas Mizuno is inspired by Japanese nature and art, as well as pop culture.
He has already created several pieces of jewelry inspired by video games such as Zelda and Kingdom Hearts.
In Adam and Chris’s order, one of the main goals was to make the two rings look like a set, even though the inspirations for them were drawn from two different areas of the game and they appeared quite opposite.
Chris’s ring was to represent the angel wing design of the White Mage’s relic weapon. Accordingly, the lower part of the staff head was projected and mirrored onto the ring.
Adam’s ring, on the other hand, was meant to capture the essence of the leathery and bony wings of the Primordial Bahamut, as seen in the Bahamut weapons. The Primordial plays an important role in the story of FFXIV.
The challenge was to maintain the elegance of a wedding ring, so the final design was slightly less detailed than the original sketch.
For such a handcrafted and custom-made piece of art, Takayas Mizuno needs about two to three months.
Inspiration from All Areas of Final Fantasy XIV
It is not the first time that FFXIV players have had their rings made by Takayas Custom Jewelry.
The blog on the Takayas website even specifically notes that many of his customers have found each other through Final Fantasy XIV and take their inspiration for their rings directly from the game.
Another couple, players Itsuka and Johann, used the designs of the Paladin job and the NPC character Nanamo Ul Namo as a template for their rings.
For Johann’s masculine ring, a blue topaz was used as the stone, representing the color of the Paladin’s relic sword.
The NPC Sultana Nanamo Ul Namo plays an important role in the bombastic ending of the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn storyline. The feminine ring of Itsuka was to capture the gentle character of Nanamo with a light pink morganite.
Another example of the creative realization of FFXIV designs in Takayas’ work is a ring based on the Warrior job:
Or another ring designed after the dragon Hraesvelgr, an important character of the FFXIV expansion “Heavensward.”
The cost of such a custom piece is unknown. However, one can submit a request for free on the website of the master jeweler. All pieces of jewelry are made taking into account the design wishes and budget of the customer.
