The 5th season of The Boys is in full swing, showing how the character Butcher acts increasingly cruel. Now, an event from the 5th episode of the series could lead to a rethink.

What’s wrong with Butcher? The leader of the Boys is supposed to fight against the evil superheroes and put an end to their ways. However, the events from the fifth season once again show that Butcher himself possesses a very flexible moral compass.
He acts increasingly cruel and sheds parts of his human side. This leads to drastic measures. Butcher is willing to use a supes virus to kill Homelander. The problem: The virus will take out ALL supes, including those who act good, like Annie and Kimiko.
It would be mass murder, something Butcher seems to have little problem with. He also no longer wants to protect Ryan, Homelander’s son and Butcher’s wife Becca’s son, for whom Butcher himself acts as a sort of stepfather.
Overall, the character doesn’t portray an exemplary figure in the last episodes, which also leads to disputes within the Boys. Just a few days ago, the 5th episode was released, bringing a surprising twist.
A Dog Provides the Twist
What happens in episode 5? Central to Butcher and his change of heart is his own dog. The dog’s name is Terror, and it eats chocolate in the episode. This is highly dangerous for the animal, and so Butcher and Hughie must rush to the rescue.
Here it becomes clear that Butcher still possesses something like empathy and humanity. He is not the cold, heartless villain that some perceive him to be. Moreover, he must cooperate with Hughie, with whom he has already had confrontations.
In the end, Butcher comes to his senses: he decides to use the V1 serum to create a cure for the supes virus. This way, Annie and Kimiko can also be protected from certain death.
Whether the newfound humanity in Butcher also prevails outside his relationship with the dog Terror remains to be seen. Episode 6 is set to release on May 6, and only 3 episodes remain until the season finale on May 20, 2026. In these episodes, it will be revealed whether Butcher can defeat Homelander.
