The PC version of Borderlands 3 will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a while. Only after that could platforms like Steam follow.
What’s new: Borderlands 3 was revealed today, on April 3rd, with further details about the game. Now it’s clear that the release date is, as expected, September 13, 2019. It’s also clear that the PC version will initially only be available in one store.
The PC version of Borderlands 3 will be exclusively available for 6 months in the Epic Games Store.

How long is Borderlands 3 exclusive to Epic? The exclusivity lasts until April 2020. According to a press release from 2K, the shooter will then be available in other digital PC stores. However, they did not specify which stores those will be. Many players in the community are hoping for a Steam release.
Fans anticipated exclusivity: In recent days, fans’ thoughts have become increasingly vocal. Many signs pointed to BL 3 being exclusive to Epic. The leaked trailer already showed the Epic logo.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford stated that it is not Gearbox itself making the decision about the platform, but rather the publisher 2K will do that. However, Pitchford wishes that there will be a crossplay feature that supports playing Borderlands 3 across multiple platforms.
This is what 2K says about the exclusivity in the Epic Games Store
In the press release, 2K’s president, David Ismailer, explains: “Our mission is not only to provide the most engaging and captivating entertainment experiences but also to explore new distribution platforms that contribute to our efforts to expand the audience for Borderlands 3.”
As PCGamer reports, the Epic Games Store is already said to have 85 million registered users, and 40% of them do not have Steam installed. This means there are many potential players for Borderlands 3.
