Battlefield 5 advertises, among other things, that there will be no loot boxes in the game. However, many players have regarded the Airlift Items as such loot boxes – just under another name. Now the developers have made a statement.
Are Airlifts also loot boxes? After passages about so-called Airlift Items were found in the product description of the Battlefield 5 Deluxe Edition, some fans made fun of DICE and EA. Some suspected that these Airlifts, of which there are supposed to be 20 for the owners of the Deluxe Edition of Battlefield V, would be the already known loot box mechanics, which would now simply be called something else.
DICE had repeatedly stressed, however, that there would be no loot boxes in Battlefield V. This topic was therefore hotly debated on Reddit. Now the creators of Battlefield 5 have made a statement and made it clear:

There are no loot boxes in Battlefield 5
Official statement: The community manager of Battlefield 5, Braddock512, has now spoken out on Reddit regarding the loot box allegations and provided clarity.
Airlift Items can be obtained by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of Battlefield 5 and from some selected partners. However, these are exclusively cosmetic items. These items provide no performance boosts or gameplay advantages.

These are also not randomized but are predetermined by DICE. Therefore, they are not boxes with random contents. All owners of the Deluxe Edition will receive the same 20 items.
This is how the community reacts: This announcement was largely received positively and confirms in the eyes of many fans what many had already suspected: It basically just concerns 20 additional cosmetics that one receives as part of a more extensive game edition – a quite common practice that has absolutely nothing to do with the loot box problem.
However, fans wished for better communication from DICE. The term “Airlift Items” was, according to fans, an unfortunate choice by the developers. This indeed creates the impression that it could really be a kind of loot box. Thus, this issue could have been avoided from the outset.
What do you think of the Airlifts after the developers’ clarification? Much ado about nothing? Or should one remain skeptical?
