Asmongold has surprisingly stopped streaming. A serious incident in the family is to blame – which he is now discussing.
Most know Asmongold as a rather energetic streamer who can sometimes be a bit toxic. But he has rarely been as serious as in recent days. The reason: His mother was nearly killed. And only through a “stroke of luck” could the worst be prevented.
Who is Asmongold? Asmongold is one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, who used to focus primarily on World of Warcraft. For a long time, he has built a large community, but now he also plays other games – such as Final Fantasy XIV.
Even though it is mostly about gaming – and it can get quite hectic – Asmongold also has quieter streams where he talks more concentrated about various topics. During these, viewers often get glimpses of Asmongold’s private life. He lives with his mother, who is not in good health. Although she has a lung disease, she continues to smoke and sometimes has to inhale oxygen directly. Asmongold frequently has to take care of her and run errands for her. He also supports her financially.
Additionally, there is Asmongold’s ongoing concern for his mother, especially due to the corona pandemic – which is particularly dangerous for people with pre-existing conditions, especially in the lung area.
The last few years have been extremely tense for Asmongold, even though he doesn’t always show it in the stream.
This was the situation: In one of his latest videos, Asmongold appears quite calm and factual. He explains his absence and tells a story that is touching.
After a stream that Asmongold didn’t really enjoy, he lay down when he suddenly heard a loud crash. A look towards his mother’s room revealed “strangely flickering lights” and since nothing could be heard from his mother, he immediately went into her room. He describes the moment as follows:
Then I went in and it turned out that she had been smoking – too close to her oxygen machine. There was fire everywhere. On her too. I had to put it all out. And the fire was creeping toward the [oxygen] tank through this little tube. It was almost like in a cartoon, how the fire got closer to the bomb. I could only think “Oh my God,” and immediately turned off the tank. I was able to prevent it from exploding or anything. […] She couldn’t even speak, it took her breath away and threw her out of her chair.
Thereupon, Asmongold immediately called emergency services, who arrived promptly. He explicitly praises the staff there and refers to them as “angels” who took excellent care of his mother.
It then took hours for the hospital to contact him and explain that his mother was stabilized.
However, the entire incident has greatly affected Asmongold. He talks extensively about his worry of losing his mother – and at the same time, how fortunate he was to have witnessed the incident:
If I hadn’t streamed that day, hadn’t been there, and had just lain down afterward, she would probably be dead. I wouldn’t have heard anything while I was upstairs. It’s frightening and really strange how incredibly lucky it was that I was there. I replay the situation in my head over and over, four times an hour. I can’t believe what happened.
Asmongold described this experience a few days ago in his video “The Worst Day of My Life” which is the worst day of his life.
However, Asmongold doesn’t seem to be entirely at ease yet. His mother remains in the hospital, where he had recently visited her. Although the doctors and nurses are, according to him, “relatively optimistic,” he is still very concerned.
When will Asmongold return? He couldn’t yet provide an exact date for when Asmongold would stream regularly again. However, he thanked his viewers for all the encouraging and compassionate words in the comments. Currently, it seems that he will return “sooner rather than later” as soon as he has organized his thoughts a bit.
No matter what one might think of Asmongold and his streams – in such an incident, one can only wish that his mother and he recover from it and that something like this does not happen again.
Other Twitch streamers are also taking a break – and simply switching to YouTube, especially when they get banned too often.
