The developers of ARC Raiders have tightened their measures against cheaters. This does not sit well with some players and leads them to inappropriate behavior.
What is the studio’s problem? More and more players are reportedly showing up at the developer studio, as Patrick Söderlund, one of the founders and current CEO of Embark, stated in an interview with IGN.
The studio is seeing this influx, according to Söderlund, especially since they have been taking a tougher stance against players who violate the sacred rule of online gaming – to play fair and not to cheat: cheaters.
Cheaters trying to get into the studio
This is what it’s about: Söderlund mentions in the interview, that the developers have recently been very aggressive against cheaters. Nevertheless, he considers the banning process to be delicate because they only want to ban those who deserve to be banned – depending on the degree, temporarily, longer-term, or permanently.
Then Söderlund reports that there are now more people who show up uninvited at the studio since they started banning players: “I see an influx of people trying to get into the studio, and to me.”
Often these players come with the oldest “excuse” in the world, as Söderlund recounts, claiming: “I didn’t do anything.” Overall, the development team is noticing a shift in this regard, Söderlund explains: “We see a pretty significant change, but I know that we have probably banned tens of thousands of players so far, as far as I know.”
Here’s why you should NOT show up at a studio: A developer studio will not unban you in the game because you personally pressured the employees. What remains is the unpleasant impression you leave in such a case.
By showing up unannounced at the developers’ workplace, you not only disrupt the workflow but also pose a risk to the safety of the employees and cross a boundary. This can create a feeling of discomfort and threat. In the worst case, your behavior could be legally relevant.
In the interview, Patrick Söderlund also talked about the success of the game and the financial situation of the studio. He also revealed that Embark is already working on new games.
