ARC Raiders is currently testing a type of PvE mode that protects you from treacherous raiders. The principle is reminiscent of The Division.
What is the PvE about? ARC Raiders has launched a closed beta test in China, where there is a mode that is more focused on PvE.
According to Chinese testers, the system works like this:
- All players are initially friendly. PvP is considered team shooting because all raiders are theoretically on the same side against the ACR. Additionally, team damage is disabled by default.
- If you want to play PvP, you can press a button and effectively become a traitor. This activates team damage again and gives you the opportunity to betray other raiders.
- As soon as you become a traitor, a red light on your backpack lights up, which everyone can see and recognize that you are a traitor and cannot be trusted.
The principle is very similar to the Dark Zone from The Division 1 and 2. Initially, all players are Division agents on the same side, but they can choose to become rogue to steal valuable Dark Zone loot from other players. Rogue agents in The Division are also recognizable to other players.
Chinese players get their own version of ARC Raiders
What lies behind the differences to the western version of the game: In China, the mega-corporation Tencent is responsible for ARC Raiders (and The Finals). This was announced by Embark Studios and Nexon back in August 2024. From then on, Tencent should work together with the developers of the extraction shooter to create a tailored version of ARC Raiders for the Chinese market (via Businesswire).
For the Chinese version, adjustments such as new features, content, and the corresponding localization are on the horizon. In addition to the PvE mode modeled after the Dark Zone from The Division, there is also a mode called “Dual Boss,” where two boss enemies (like the Matriarch) spawn on the same map and loot drops land at random locations.
However, the release of the Chinese version of ARC Raiders is still pending, and it is not yet certain whether the features tested in the closed beta will make it into the full release – or if even bigger changes will be introduced.
This is what the community says about it: On Reddit, the Chinese version of ARC Raiders is already being heavily discussed. Although players are not allowed to share video recordings of the closed beta, the stories of testers already make western players envious. One user writes: “This is the PvE mode that everyone has been waiting for.”
Some users find the principle interesting or cool, while others fear that this will lose the tension that arises from not knowing who to trust and who not to trust. Regardless of the PvE mode, some players also believe that Embark should test the dual-boss mode in the west.
The development studio behind the shooter hit had, however, just announced in May 2026 that it would significantly reduce the frequency of large content updates. Instead of releasing new content once a month, you will now only receive updates twice: ARC Raiders responds to players complaining about lack of content: now only brings new content twice a year
