5. Scream 3
Scream 3 sends our protagonists to a Hollywood set. Namely that of Stab 3, the film that is based on the murders of the previous parts within the Scream universe. But just as in the film, a new Ghostface killer appears in the real world as well.
Scream 3 mocks trilogies and the dimension that a 3rd part often reaches. However, this only works to a limited extent. Most of the time, the film focuses on familiar patterns that the series already parodied with part 1. Nevertheless, the characters are entertaining and the reveal at the end is fun again.
4. Scream 2
Scream 2 moves the high school setting to the university. 2 years after the first murders, Sidney and her friends are in college. But just before the relaxed student life really starts, a new Ghostface killer appears.
Scream 2 parodies pretentious film students at its core and further mocks classic slasher films. Combined with clichés from college films, it results in a film that, while not really bringing anything new, manages to create a good sequel thanks to the known characters.
3. Scream (2022)
Scream from 2022 was a soft reboot of the series, introducing new protagonists for the first time. In Woodsboro, a new Ghostface killer appears again, and the old heroes must return to stop him and find out who the new killer is.
Scream functions surprisingly well, even though it returns to the high school setting. The film feels like a worthy conclusion for the old characters and a good beginning for a new series. Jenna Ortega does her job well and Ghostface feels a bit more aggressive here.
