GTA 6 is by far the most anticipated game of 2025. Two experts have discussed some figures regarding the next hit from Rockstar and believe that GTA 6 will become the most expensive game for both players and Rockstar at the same time.
Which experts are being referenced? The two industry insiders Louise Wooldridge from Ampere Analysis and Michael Patcher from Wedbush Securities made some predictions about GTA 6 in an article from The Telegraph. Among other things, they talk about the high price that both Rockstar and the players are expected to pay.
What figures do the experts mention? Louise Wooldridge believes that GTA 6 is likely the most anticipated game of all time. Michael Patcher mentions a purchase price of 100 € for GTA 6, which even the CEO of the publisher has commented on, and also predicts it will have the highest budget ever for a video game. The costs for Rockstar’s next game are said to exceed 1.5 billion dollars (approximately 1.3 billion euros).
Genshin Impact and Star Citizen are still quite a way behind GTA 6 with costs of 900 million and 777 million dollars respectively (according to legit.ng).
The high development costs could therefore also be the reason why the purchase price for GTA 6 is increasing. Either way, GTA 6 will thus become an immensely profitable video game for the development team, according to Patcher.

Which developers have changed prices? The most recent example of a price development in video games is Nintendo. A launch title for the Switch 2, Mario Kart World, has been priced at 80 euros for the digital version and a hefty 90 euros for a physical copy. The former head of PlayStation believes that video games are still cheap compared to other entertainment media despite rising prices.
Are there developers who do not charge higher prices? Yes, in June 2025 Xbox reduced the price of the SciFi role-playing game The Outer Worlds 2 from a previously announced price of 80 euros to 70 euros, as announced by the developers Obsidian (bsky.app).
EA is cautious with its prices: EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, has announced in response to a question about game prices, especially for Battlefield 6, that they do not intend to make any changes to their prices for the time being (gamesradar.com):
We currently do not intend to make any changes in pricing, but this should be viewed in the context that we already offer a fairly broad pricing model across our various products.
The discussion about video game prices has many opinions. One of the biggest Twitch streamers, xQc, believes that a price of 100 euros is not bad. Rockstar can gladly ask for 100 euros if they deliver everything and create one of the most anticipated games: GTA 6 could increase the price for all AAA games: Streamer on Twitch sees no problem in it.
