A single developer is behind a game that looks like Gothic and is supposed to feel like it too. In a demo, you can already test the crisp combat system.
What kind of game is it? Sword Hero is an upcoming RPG that aims to impress you with an interactive, open game world and a strong combat system. By the way, a single developer named “ForestWare” is behind the game.
Sword Hero consciously forgoes fancy graphics, focusing instead on gameplay. Graphically, the game especially reminds of old classics like the Gothic series. And this is intentionally by the developer.
On the official Steam page of the game, the developer promises “a consistently open world full of secrets and stories that closely adheres to the style of the Gothic cult series.”

What kind of demo is this? Among other places, on the platform itch.io you can download the first public demo of Sword Hero for free and get a first impression. The developer explains: “this demo gives a small insight into the basics of the combat system of my upcoming open-world RPG.”
And this demo seems to be well received at least. For instance, the English-language magazine PCGamer has already thoroughly tested the demo and explains that the game is surprisingly realistic and the demo gives you a good insight into the game. So says journalist Ted Litchfield from PCGamer:
- Enemies insult you and will loot your corpse as soon as they have killed you.
- You can pick up and carry pretty much any item in the game: Whether it’s books, corpses, or individual body parts from defeated enemies. But eventually your inventory will be full.
- The fights are supposed to be particularly intense because the environment plays an important role. In a pitch-black cave, you can’t see much if you don’t have a torch with you.
And it can get particularly tough. PCGamer reports: If you lose your dominant hand in combat, you won’t be able to equip weapons or pick things up.
Is there a release date yet? No, there is still no release date, but there is already an official Steam page where you can add the game to your wishlist. A possible price is also not yet known.
