One of the highlights of the animes coming out in the next few months is Witch Hat Atelier. Readers of the manga have been waiting since 2019 for the series to finally come out – and it has great ambitions.
Why was the anime in development for so long? The production for the Witch Hat Atelier anime took a whole 7 years. According to the producers on Instagram, that’s a long time, but if you had read the manga, you would understand why it took so long.
In the manga, there are extremely complicated drawings that need to be adapted into animation. As an example, the producer duo mentions magic. Even if the character is wrapped in light in just one drawing, it has to be depicted in much more detail in the anime. Because here, movements and colors also come into play.
Another factor that took time was consulting with the author. They want to coordinate every little detail about the magic with him to ensure that everything proceeds to his satisfaction.
Witch Hat Atelier aims to compete with The Lord of the Rings
What does it want to achieve? The producers talk about wanting to create something that can compete with other Hollywood blockbusters. As a comparison, the producer mentions The Lord of the Rings, which seems a bit megalomaniac but also endearing, as he presents it with a laugh.
Since the producer herself comes from the Harry Potter generation, she wants to introduce a new generation to a world of fantasy and magic. But adults should also be drawn into the charm of the anime.
What is it about? The young girl Coco wants to become a witch. However, only those born with magical talent can become witches. Unfortunately, Coco is not one of them.
One day she meets the wizard Qifrey, who takes her on as a student. He teaches her that one can also cast spells through the use of runes and magical ink.
The dark witch circle becomes interested in Coco due to her actions. Its goal is to revive the free use of magic. It was banned because several atrocities were committed with it in the past. Coco has to cope with the dark conspiracy while also dealing with her newly acquired magical knowledge.
