In Path of Exile 2 there are many ways to get rare items. A player used the rituals for this and found a magnificent unique, but by the time he paid it off, it was already worthless.
What did a player have to struggle with? The user shadowclone515 explained on Reddit 2 days ago (as of September 17, 2025) that after ages he could finally pay off a unique of his choice at the ritual altars. The unique is “The Coming Calamity (Heroic Armor)” – a chest armor.
In his post, the user explains he had to bring up to 30,000 tributes to finally buy the item. That’s a lot, and anyone who frequently uses the rituals on their maps will know that such a bill can only be paid off in installments.
One might think the item would now be worth a lot and could be quickly resold for a profit, but that is not the case. The blame lies with the altar system.
A race against time
Why is the find not a cause for joy? If one wants to use the item for their own build, the find could still have some use, but aside from that, the chest armor is worthless on the market.
If you observe the price history of “The Coming Calamity” with PoE2 Scout, you will find that on August 30, you could have gotten up to 516 Exalts (Exalted Orbs) – which is currently worth 2 Divs (Divine Orbs). That would at least be a nice profit, even though it is small.
Currently, however, you only get between 6 and 8 Exalts for the armor, which is very low. It would be better to have the item enchanted at Zolin to receive a shard of possibilities.
Why did the user take ages to buy the item? It has to do with the rituals. In the endgame, you can generate or find maps with rituals on your atlas. In these, you lock up the altars and get up to 2,000-3,000 tributes that you can then waste at the altars for items.
However, if you find an item that is very valuable, like a unique, the price, as in the case of the Reddit user, amounts to 30,000 tributes – too much to pay all at once. The only option is to pay for the item in installments.
Your desired item then has a lower price and has the chance to be offered again at a future altar with its adjusted price. However, the problem here is that there is no guarantee that your unique will be offered at the next map.
You always have to hope that your item appears so that you can pay it off piece by piece with a new rate. This takes not only time but also affects your profit if you want to sell your item.
A sad act for the user, but at least he can use the item for himself, should it suit his build. What do you think of the altars in Path of Exile 2?
