If you are currently waiting for Fallout Season 2 for some new post-apocalyptic content, you can soon look forward to competition: Atomfall is getting its own series. The “British Fallout” plays with unmistakably British charm. The producers have experience, including with Doctor Who – much to the delight of MeinMMO editor and part-time Time Lord Benedict Grothaus.
In 2025, a new action game called Atomfall was released, which strongly resembles Fallout, but plays very much like its own thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the – relatively short – game back then, simply because of its many references.
On Steam, Atomfall has a rating of “mostly positive” with 77%, and according to the developers, has about 3.7 million players, but it hasn’t really become “big”. Just a little AA hidden gem.
Accordingly, I was surprised when the email came through announcing that Atomfall will receive its own series – albeit with quite limited information:
- The series is produced by Two Brothers Pictures.
- Writers Harry and Jack Williams, who created the British comedy series “Fleabag,” are involved.
- From Rebellion Studio, the two founders Jason and Chris Kingsley are also working on the project.
- Also involved in production is Alex Mercer, who has worked on Doctor Who.
At this point, it was clear to me that I must see the series. Doctor Who is one of the best sci-fi series according to IMDb and was inducted into the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-running series.
Personally, Doctor Who, along with Supernatural, is among my absolute favorites, and for those who can’t relate, I explain what makes Doctor Who so great. When and where the series will premiere is still unknown. Information about the cast and length is also missing.
For the current status of the Fallout series, you can find out here:
Atomfall is the “Fallout for in between” but thoroughly British
If the template doesn’t ring a bell: Atomfall mixes the atmosphere of Fallout (but certainly is not the hoped-for Fallout 5) with a Stalker-like gameplay and uses a real, nuclear near-catastrophe as its basis. With 17 hours, the base game is quite short, and an expansion has already been released.
The game heavily relies on British humor and pop culture. There are references to Mr. Bean and Judge Dredd, garden gnomes at every corner, and of course, cricket bats instead of the usual baseball bats. NPCs may occasionally berate you with a Scottish accent.
The only thing that makes me somewhat skeptical about the whole thing is Mercer – because he produced Seasons 11 and 12 of Doctor Who, which are generally considered the worst and which I also didn’t really like. Doctor Who rises and falls with its companions: You will never see a Doctor Who companion in the series because she is too dark
