The enemies of Batman live dangerously. One of his oldest is currently experiencing a terrible defeat; whether he can recover from it is uncertain.
Attention Spoiler: We reveal a crucial twist in the comic Batman Vol. 4 #10. If you still want to read the volume, you should skip the article.
Which opponent is it about? Hugo Strange is a professor from the Batman universe and is one of the oldest villains that the Bat has ever confronted.
He made his debut in 1940 in Detective Comics #36, even before the Joker, who appeared just a few months later.
Like Batman and numerous other characters, Hugo Strange was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. He is a criminal mastermind who uses science, among other things, to conduct gruesome experiments.
In more recent stories, he primarily appears as a psychologist who is obsessed with uncovering Batman’s true identity. A recent example is his appearance in the game Batman Arkham City, where Strange is the head of the quarantined part of the city where various villains gather. He has not yet appeared in the cinema.
Over the years, Strange has faked his death repeatedly – now it seems, however, that the career of the villain might be over for the time being.
Villain takes out Villain
What happens to Hugo Strange? In the comic “Batman Vol. 4 #10”, which is the current main series from DC, the professor encounters the villain Minotaur and his syndicate Torus. The criminals quickly take care of Strange and shoot him.
Why all this? Well, Strange made the mistake of challenging the criminal Tozuki-san. This one runs the company Tozuki Petrochemicals, which supplies various products from the field of chemistry and technology to Torus.
Strange has incited his own men against a group of assassins from Tozuki-san, which was interpreted as an attack on Torus. And that ultimately led to the revenge action and the professor’s death.
This event is very special because Strange has seemingly died several times before but has mostly just faked his death. Will he stay dead this time?
For the main universe of Batman, this is not unlikely. But even if he eventually returns in a mysterious way, he will likely be out of the panels for the foreseeable future.
The current story shows that no character at DC is truly safe, even if they belong to the oldest figures in the universe. What do you think about such drastic decisions? Feel free to write it in the comments. At the competitor Marvel, famous villains have repeatedly failed to make it to the cinema: A Marvel villain has never appeared in the cinema; ten years ago, he was replaced by an unknown character
