You walk through a vast world and can explore everything – alternatively, you can also play the story and unlock characters with whom you can later fight hordes of enemies.
A lot is already explained through the numerous tutorials in the game, but some things aren’t mentioned. We show you 7 tips so you can start off strong right from the beginning.
Adventure Rank, World Rank, and Character Rank – What’s Important?
There are 3 important ranks in Genshin Impact that you should remember. They include:
- Adventure Rank
- World Rank
- Character Rank
What is the Adventure Rank? You can compare it to the account level. The adventure rank in Genshin Impact is important because it unlocks numerous things in the game. The most important levels are:
- Rank 10: From here you can exchange star dust for items at the Adventure Guild
- Rank 12: This gives you daily changing quests from the Adventure Guild
- Rank 16: Multiplayer is unlocked – you can play with friends together
- Rank 20: You gain access to the Battle Pass
You can increase the Adventure Rank through almost all actions in the game. Missions and bosses give you points for rank progression – but even just exploring gives points.
What is the World Rank? You can increase the World Rank through special missions at adventure levels 20, 25, and 30.
Through these missions, you can unlock better rewards and increase the maximum of the Adventure Rank. However, you will also encounter stronger enemies.
What is the Character Rank? Each character in Genshin Impact has its own rank. You can increase this by using scrolls from chests.
The higher the rank, the better your fighter will perform against even stronger enemies.
Level Up Your Characters Wisely
What you should consider: As you progress through the story, you unlock some characters, each of whom plays differently. The temptation is great to play with and level every character.
However, especially at the beginning of the game, you should be cautious. Don’t waste too many resources on characters you aren’t actually using.
We recommend that you initially level up a little and discover the different characters. Only after you’ve unlocked a few characters and gathered enough resources should you start leveling up characters.

Collect Everything You Can Find
What you need to know: In Genshin Impact, there is a bag limit of 30,000. You have plenty of space to collect items, so especially at the beginning, you don’t need to worry about space.
You should collect all these items, as each item can be effectively utilized or exchanged for better items. So, don’t worry about whether you need the item you’ve collected or not – just collect it and later exchange it for something useful.
Collect Anemoculus: An important item is Anemoculus. They are marked on the map as stars and should be collected by you.
You can then offer them at statues scattered across the map to receive strong bonuses.

Elements Can Be Combined – What Does That Bring?
What you should know about the elements: Each character is assigned a specific element. This gives the character different attacks.
Not only the element itself is important. You can also combine elements. If your team, which always consists of 4 characters, contains different elements, it triggers a combination.
These combinations have various effects. Sometimes they impact enemies, and sometimes you will become stronger from them.
The following combinations exist:
- In Flames: Pyro + Dendro
- Crystallization: Geo + Cryo/Electro/Hydro/Pyro
- Electro-Charged: Electro + Hydro
- Frozen: Cryo + Hydro
- Melt: Cryo + Pyro
- Superconduct: Cryo + Electro
- Overloaded: Electro + Pyro
- Vaporize: Hydro + Pyro
- Swirl: Anemo + Cryo/Electro/Hydro/Pyro
Team-Building Is Complicated – Here’s How to Do It
What makes it difficult: Anyone aiming to build a really strong team must first experiment properly. There are plenty of factors you need to consider.
It starts with the basic strength of the characters, extends to the reactions of the different elements, and includes the strengths and weaknesses of the enemies.
This is how to build a team right in Genshin Impact: The most important factor is that you can handle the characters well. A character can be very strong, but if you can’t fight well with them, it doesn’t help. So try different teams.

What you should know about characters: Typically, heroes and weapons at level 5 are the best you can get. However, you should also collect artifacts, because they make your character really strong.
Don’t Neglect the Story
What is important about the story: In Genshin Impact, there is much to discover, but you shouldn’t just wander around and defeat enemies. Play the story as well, because you get some useful things from it.
Through the story, you can unlock several characters that are really strong. You should definitely secure these. Additionally, there are numerous rewards that will help you level up.
The open world is also full of adventures, but you shouldn’t forget about the story.
Save for Destiny Items
What you need to know about the gacha system: Now it gets a bit complicated. While you can unlock many things in Genshin Impact, some things, like strong characters, are only available when you wish for them. This includes characters and weapons of levels 4 and 5 – these are often only obtainable through the gacha system. There are also characters through events, and weapons up to level 4 can be crafted.
Through this wishing, you randomly receive a character or weapon. However, this wishing only works if you have destiny items. You obtain these items through primogems, and primogems can be acquired through creation crystals.
This means that primarily the creation crystals are interesting for you. You can buy these in the shop or earn them through in-game actions. However, you can also find primogems in the game, for instance, in chests or as rewards.
In many corners of the game, you’ll be encouraged to spend your creation crystals. However, you shouldn’t do that; instead, it’s better to save these crystals. You need 64 destiny crystals to wish once – alternatively, it’s also possible for 160 primogems.
What you need to keep in mind: Genshin Impact is completely free to play, but it offers a gacha system where you can acquire characters randomly. Some characters are extremely rare. So don’t count on getting all characters without spending real money.
While you can unlock everything without spending money, it also requires a lot of luck and time. The odds of getting a level 5 character are frighteningly low.
