How does the spell work? As part of the grim and macabre English rulebook “Book of Vile Darkness”, the spell “Love’s Pain” lives up to its name. It not only causes physical damage but also high levels of emotional damage.
The spellcaster chooses a target for their creepy black-green lance-like projectile, which deals 1d6 damage for every 2 caster levels invested (up to a maximum of 10d6). However, this damage does not apply directly to the target but to the person whom the target loves the most.
There is no limit to the distance between the spellcaster and the loved one. Neither resistances nor a saving throw exist that could prevent or reduce the damage. It simply happens. Should the rare case occur where the target has no one but themselves, they simply take the damage themselves.
So, if you want to really hurt someone and cause emotional drama, this spell may be what you’ve been looking for.
