Strength 2: The Fantastic Game World
When the woman and the boys gather behind you multiple times in awe of how beautiful everything looks on the screen, you know: This is a game that is really pretty. This is exactly what happened repeatedly during the playtest of Honor of Kings: World.
The developers also cleverly sell their game world. As soon as you enter the plains of the first region, a camera flight presents the chocolate side of Primaera. The flower meadow shines in lush colors, the sky could not be bluer, while the imaginative version of a deer hops past a mysterious ruin and an impressive structure kisses the sky on the horizon.
But it’s not just the deer that brings life to the scene. Swarms of small beings flutter through the air everywhere, while on the ground, peculiar transparent but apparently endearing creatures roam through the grass. Just two meters later, a cute large-eyed owl stops us, which is used as an animal phone by an ally.
It stays just as beautiful, imaginative, and quirky. We really like this style. There’s always something to marvel at or a little detail to discover. The models of the characters are also bursting with details. You can tell that Tencent invested a lot of money in the implementation of HoK:W.
The technology behind the technology is also right. At no time did we experience performance drops or annoying graphic glitches during the playtest. We did not encounter any bugs or crashes either. However, we cannot say whether this applies to the entire scope and all contents at this time – we had only uncovered a small part of the world map by the end of the playtest.
However, you will have to live with the rather typical Asian look. All human figures are supermodels with not a gram of excess fat on their hips. The outfits often tend to be very form-fitting. Moreover, you will have to deal with the visually most striking costumes through the battle pass, the in-game shop, or the Gacha system. We will delve into that in more detail in the next article.
