A player sold his beloved game collection in great need. 14 years later, he realizes that he would have received much more for it today. Many games are worth several hundred US dollars today. A small fortune that he had to more or less give away for just a few dollars many years ago.
A player reports on Reddit in a post that he had to part with his game collection in 2012: He had to move quickly, needed money, and his games were the quickest solution to create cash and space.
Now, 14 years later, he deeply regrets this decision or as he himself writes: “A great loss.”
Today he could have received several hundred US dollars for his old game collection
Not only from the sentimental value but also from what he would have received for his games today. According to the receipt he held up to the camera, he apparently received around 10 US dollars for over 100 games back then. At least that’s what some users can still decipher, as the slip has faded significantly over the years.
Today, 14 years later, he would have received several hundred euros just for individual games that are considered collectibles today. He writes:
Some of the prices I see now are several hundred per piece. That was before the retro price boom… I wish this picture were readable. I kept the receipt for a while, and when I recently found it again, it was completely faded. There were over 100 games… Damn.
In the community, many express their regret about the post and explain that they can relate to his loss, with some commenting on his post stating that they have been in a similar situation: In the end, one had “sacrificed” consoles or beloved games to build a better life.
In the replies, conversations range from bus tickets for dates to sold WoW accounts, whose proceeds ultimately helped to break free from an old life.
Against a Texan, the collection of about 100 games may seem tiny. This person has collected over 20,000 games, including many rarities. Yet, he admits that he has not played many of the games. However, there are also games in his collection that were never available for purchase.
