Who is MrBeast? James “MrBeast” Donaldson is an American YouTuber known for his extravagant and expensive videos, but also for his philanthropic content. In November 2022, he surpassed PewDiePie and has since officially been the “King of YouTube”.
By now, MrBeast is the first individual with over 200 million subscribers on YouTube and owns the channel with the second most subscribers overall. He owes this in no small part to a special strategy that allowed him to grow significantly in 2023.
Despite – or perhaps because of – his unprecedented success, the content creator warns against trying to emulate him.
The Luxembourger “LetsHugo” became one of the biggest streamers on German-speaking Twitch after dropping out of school. However, MrBeast warns against making such decisions rashly.

What does MrBeast say? In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the YouTuber warns against giving up a secure career too hastily to become a content creator. He wrote on March 15, 2024:
It is painful to see people giving up their jobs/dropping out of school to produce content full-time before they are ready. For every person like me who makes it, there are thousands who don’t. Please keep this in mind and be smart.
So MrBeast does not fundamentally discourage pursuing the dream of becoming a content creator. However, aspiring influencers should ensure that they can actually make a living from it before giving up an existing job or neglecting their education.
The 25-year-old compares the chance of becoming successful on YouTube and similar platforms in a humorous comment under his post to gambling: On the other hand, if one were to take out a mortgage on their house and gamble their wealth on roulette, he would support that (via X).
But even those who have succeeded and are successfully producing content online sometimes struggle with their career choice. Now she is one of the most successful women on German Twitch, but she says: “Influencers have achieved nothing in life”
