Warzone is live and with it the highly anticipated battle royale mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Many players have wondered in advance if they can also play alone. Yes, it is possible, but it has disadvantages.
How can I set up Solo or Duo? When you start the new Warzone mode in Modern Warfare for the first time, you will have to complete a training session first. Afterwards, you can enter the first lobby. You have two game modes to choose from:
- Battle Royale
- Plunder
- as well as various practice modes
Directly below the selection, you have a switch for “Fill Squad.” You can set it to either “Fill” or “Don’t Fill.” The “Fill” option ensures that players are assigned to your team until you are a trio. With “Don’t Fill,” you play alone or as a duo, depending on your group size.
This is a disadvantage: Similar to Apex Legends, the squad size in Warzone is set to three players. This means that the occurring groups play as a trio.
If you register now with fewer players, it may happen that you are still thrown into a match against trio groups. This is particularly a disadvantage in Solo, because when you spot an enemy, you always have to assume that they are not alone.
Pros and Cons of Solo Play
What are the advantages? If you still decide to play alone, you can of course keep all the loot for yourself. You don’t have to share and can freely take anything you find.
In addition, you are harder to spot alone. A team that moves cohesively or uncoordinated is easier to notice on the large map than a single person.
Also, you are not immediately eliminated when you are taken out. Thanks to the Gulag feature, you get a second chance. If you are eliminated within a certain time, you go to prison. If you defeat your assigned opponent there, you get a free re-entry.
What are the additional disadvantages? Nevertheless, the disadvantages outweigh. Besides the fact that you are basically against a superior force of players, you also have no one to watch your back.
You are not only alone in firefights but also cannot borrow ammunition from other players or pool money to buy more expensive killstreaks. Additionally, your allies have the ability to revive you, even if it didn’t work in the Gulag. Alone, you cannot do that.
Matchmaking Problems
Lastly, you also potentially make it harder for all other players. Because there are currently already issues with queues due to players constantly leaving the lobby.
If you join alone now, the number must be balanced with other teams. However, this may not be a major problem shortly, because at 8:00 PM on March 10, everyone can play Warzone for free:
