For horror fans, there is almost no way to avoid the Resident Evil series. If you have somehow managed to stay away from the series so far, you can currently grab two really good remakes for just 15 € on PS5.
Which games are those? We are talking about Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, more specifically the remakes from 2019 and 2020. Until January 18 at 00:59 CET, you can get both titles in the Raccoon City Edition for only 14.99 € (via PS Store). The games are available on both PS4 and PS5.
Resident Evil Resistance is also part of the bundle. The multiplayer spin-off, which resembles games like Dead by Daylight in its gameplay, is included in every edition of Part 3. However, since this title is not necessarily a reason to buy, we will focus on the single-player experience in the following article.
In this trailer for Resident Evil 3, the developers introduce the overpowering Nemesis:
Three Different Stories from Raccoon City
What are the games about? Raccoon City is plagued by a pandemic that turns people into deadly zombies. Resident Evil 2 lets you experience the events from the perspective of young police officer Leon S. Kennedy and student Claire Redfield. Both have separate campaigns.
Resident Evil 3 also takes place in Raccoon City, but on the day before the outbreak. In it, you play as S.T.A.R.S. agent Jill Valentine and mercenary Carlos Oliveira. Throughout the story, you switch characters; this time, there are no separate campaigns.
In both games, you face the abominations of the ominous Umbrella Corporation and fight for your survival. In RE2, this fight is even more relentless, as ammunition is scarce and your knives can easily break.
A Very Good Game in the Shadow of a Masterpiece
Is it worth buying both games? That really depends on what you expect. RE2 is a horror classic and is among the best that the series has ever delivered. However, since your resources are always limited, the game allows for less mistake until you’ve messed up your own run.
RE3 has taken a slightly different approach and has lost some fans as a result. You will find more ammunition lying around and your knife no longer wears out – so you are almost never completely helpless. Overall, RE3 requires less methodical approaches, but there is more action.
