With Shadowlands, World of Warcraft gets some really nice, traditional weapons. However, they seem to be available only for new players…
In World of Warcraft Shadowlands, there are a variety of new, impressive weapon models and cool gear. However, some of the prettiest items may not be available in the new endgame areas like Bastion or Ardenweald, but exclusively for new characters. This is at least what current datamining suggests.
What has been found? In the beta game data of Shadowlands, numerous new weapon models have been discovered that have the addition “Newplayer” in their description. The dataminers from wowhead have already extracted the new weapons from the files and managed to get a first glimpse of the weapon designs.
These are rather simple weapons and shields that come without much “bling-bling” – but in stylish HD optics. Traditional fantasy weapons in the style of the Horde and Alliance, some even with distinctive logos or embellishments of the corresponding faction.
New transmog for all players?
Where will the weapons be available? Most likely, the new models will be available as starting equipment on the island “Exile’s Reach”. The different variants of these models are likely to be quest rewards that players earn during the intro experience.
After all, the story of Exile’s Reach tells a rather “classic” Warcraft adventure, played by – more or less – ordinary soldiers of the Horde and Alliance, long before the characters become great heroes. It seems logical to provide rewards with a more ordinary look here.
How does one get to Exile’s Reach? Only new characters can access this island. Exile’s Reach is a new starting area for all new characters and spans from level 1 to 10. Completely new players must start in this area, while veterans can also choose the “old” starting areas.
Blizzard, pls
To be honest, the new weapon models make me really happy. I have long wished for weapons that look a bit more ordinary and are more in line with what an “average character” in World of Warcraft would wield, who is not the chosen hero. Sure, you mainly find such weapons in the old starting areas, but there they are in damn poor resolution.
Especially the cool shields for Horde and Alliance will probably also appeal to some players at max level – as they are in the traditional look of the troops from Warcraft 3.
I can only hope that these models will also be available for transmogrification and not just for “white” weapons – because if so, players would not be able to use them in the wardrobe. And that would be a damn shame, because they just look too good.

What do you all think of these new weapon models? Would your character want to wield them?
