After the success of Fallout, Amazon is soon launching the next adaptation of a popular video game. Everything you need to know about God of War is here.
What is God of War? Contrary to what the name might suggest, it is not a new installment in the video game series from Sony, but rather an adaptation of it in the form of a series.
The focus is on the reboot that shows Kratos within Norse mythology. So it is not about Kratos in Greek mythology, as depicted in the first three games.
When is the release of God of War? There is currently no date for the series premiere. This is not surprising since filming has not yet begun. According to Nexus Point News, filming is set to start in March 2026. Therefore, a release before 2027 is rather unlikely.
Is there a trailer? Unfortunately, there is currently no footage for the series. As soon as that is available, the trailer will be shown at the following location. Until then, you can get a rough impression from the game trailer of God of War Ragnarök:
God of War: Episodes, Stream and Cast
How many episodes does God of War have? The first season is set to have 10 episodes. A second season has already been confirmed by Amazon.
Who streams God of War? The brand belongs to Sony, but for the production, the Japanese company has partnered with Amazon MGM Studios. Therefore, the series will be exclusively available on Amazon Prime Video.
Who is starring in God of War? For a long time, there was much speculation about who would play the lead role of Kratos. Only on January 14, 2026, did Amazon announce that actor Ryan Hurst has been chosen for the role.
God of War is not new to him, as he was already part of the games: In God of War Ragnarök, he played Thor and was even nominated for a BAFTA, the British film award, which has also been recognizing games for several years.
The following is currently known about the cast:
- Ryan Hurst as Kratos
- Max Parker as Heimdall
- Teresa Palmer as Sif
- Mandy Patinkin as Odin
- Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor
Who else is involved in God of War? Behind the scenes, Ronald D. Moore is serving as showrunner for the series. He is also an executive producer and part of the writing team. In his career, he has worked on series like Battlestar Galactica and the Star Trek franchise. The latter will soon have a new series aimed primarily at young people.
God of War: All About the Story
What is God of War about? To the disappointment of some fans, the series tells the story of the reboot from 2018 and leaves out the old games along with the Greek mythology.
The story revolves around the hero Kratos, who lives in Midgard with his son Atreus. Together they set out to the highest mountains to scatter the ashes of Kratos’s deceased wife. The journey is a tough test for both and presents them with numerous challenges that help them grow as characters.
It is to be expected that the first season covers the first game, and the second will ultimately focus on God of War Ragnarök. If there are any updates regarding the series, you will find them here.
