Blizzard has announced the start of Season 4 in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. It is set to kick off on April 23. Season 4 brings a new dungeon rotation for Mythic+ and fateful raids – something that has previously caused controversy.
When does the season start?
- According to a tweet from the official WoW channel, Season 4 starts on April 23. Since that is a Tuesday, the season will likely start here on April 24.
- Anyone looking to secure the achievements “Ahead of the Curve” or “Cutting Edge” in the current raid Amirdrassil must do so by then, as it will not be possible afterward.
- The contents of Season 4 are already widely known, because many of them were already playable on the PTR.
What’s included in Season 4: The main new features in Season 4 are the new PvP season, the new Mythic+ season, and the new or old raids. Instead of a new raid, you will be able to play the three raids from Dragonflight again: the Vault of the Incarnates, Aberrus, and Amirdrassil.
The three raids will be re-released in a “fateful” version – or in this case, in the “awakened” variant. This type of raid was introduced with Shadowlands and equips the instances with additional affixes, similar to key stone dungeons. The currently active raid changes every week, at least if the information from the PTR is correct.
Whether this is a great or annoying idea has been a topic of debate among players since the end of Shadowlands. Some enjoy revisiting the old raids, while others would have preferred a fourth raid. The absence of a major content patch 10.3 is certainly weighing heavily on the fans.
In terms of Mythic+, you will find all 8 Dragonflight dungeons in the rotation for Season 4 without reinforcement from older expansions.
Instead of a patch 10.3, Blizzard intends to release several small patches with special contents. Currently, Plunderstorm is the big experiment:
Blizzard completely changes the endgame with Season 4
WoW will not get the previously known “key squish” with Season 4, by which key stone levels will generally become stronger. Instead, Blizzard is completely overhauling dungeons:
- heroic dungeons will be about as hard as Mythic +0
- Mythic 0 will then correspond roughly to the current state of Mythic +10
- Item level and loot will be adjusted accordingly
The adjustments apply not only to Season 4 but also to the upcoming expansion The War Within, which is expected to launch in summer.
Also in terms of loot, Blizzard is trying something new. The tier sets that you can obtain have been chosen by the community and set for each spec. The legendary weapons Fyr’alath and Nas’zuro are returning. Those who already have them can upgrade them.
A specific end date for Season 4 has not yet been announced. However, unless it is extended again, you can expect it to end in July or August 2024. This would coincide with the expected release period of The War Within. There have already been some changes: The beta of WoW The War Within is not yet live, but Blizzard is already saying: Sorry, we are changing this
